Yo. I'm trying to figure out if I have a rev limited a35 CDI. I'm not sure still as I'm in break in and don't want to really push it. My gearing is 20x40 on a Za50. Can anyone roughly tell me at what speed the rev limiter, if I have one, would be affecting me? It kicks in at 10,000 rpm I believe.

no limiter in that model cdi. i know for a fact, it curves about 8 degrees retard around 4-5 thousand, which is pretty optimal. no limiter for sure.

There were two different ones from my understanding. Some limited and sine auto retarded. Anyone?

shaw knows 4 sure, but i was under the assumption that the only one that rev limit was the a55 model cdi that retarded so far at some point that it would not go any faster

I found this out the hard way...after buying some new A35 ignitions I noticed they didn't behave like original one's even though they had the same part #...instead of retarding 5 degrees like Lee said they would spark every other rotation and bike would hit a wall...that felt like a pipe/carb problem...very sinister...any puch runnin a tomos ignition must be timed with a strobe light and revved up to peak rpm to verify which ignition and degree your set too ...hope this helps

There are three different a35 ignitions...the only way to find out which one you have is to time it with a strobelight... if you are "off key way" then you have to verify what your degree is...Max...if you are talking about that 2 speed i eyeballed the timing on...carefull !!!! timing must be checked with strobelight and then set properly to take full advantage of what ignition you have ...or thrown in the trash if its the wrong one...the third one is a wonderful example of when things are made in india called a "FLASH"(obama ignition)...does not retard at 9-10,000...it just shuts off...Lets have a war...!!!!

Oh shit. India did Tomos parts too?? Shaw, Jeff checked my timing with a gun and it was RIGHT where you said it would be... about 15 degrees advance. I've taken it to 55 or a little more. That's 10,000+, no? I'm hitting a wall but it might be my jetting or pipe, I'm not sure. I'm super rich for break in. So with a 2.0 gear ratio and 17" wheels, where would I hit the 10,000rpm mark?
