I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

Yeah obviously I know I have to grind my wheel down and probably space the sprocket out a little bit but I never really saw a thread about 20t rear sprockets on grimeca wheels for tomos. I will be trying to do a how to thing with this my own way, heard a few different people talk about it but nothing solid. Either way check this small ass sprocket out. I just put it on the wheel to see it, haven't done anything yet.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

And I know those bolts won't clear, they are the stock ones. Just in there to hold everything up, not even tight.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

wtf? what sprocket did that thing run stock? 20t is tiny.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

on sprint, targa and bullet frames I am pretty sure stock is 22. I think on streetmate and arrow they are different.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

that's a puch front sprocket right? aren't the chains like one size different? it'll probably work tho. way to think outside the brand.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

No it's a tomos rear sprocket.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

This is where I got the rear sprocket from...

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

Why not just use a tomos wheel?

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

I am using a tomos wheel.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

whats the front sprocket?

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

1 up in the front for me, I am running a 27 tooth front sprocket(stock is 26f/22r)

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

UHHHHH just got the Hutchinson tires mounted(didn't feel like pinching a tube) and they look epic. I will be doing the grinding/spacing tonight and this weekend. Can't wait to actually do this so other people can have a how to(at least one way how to do it).

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

yea you could grind, or i just used some washers with some strong locktite to space the rear sprocket from the wheel and tightened it down like crazy. have ridden about 200 miles and polini cup this last weekend since i put on the 20T and everything is still mega tight.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

hey jewish. what are the mph speed ratings on those Hutchinson's?

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

120kmh which is 74.4mph. They are for sale on treats for like $30. Cheap for awesome 2.5in tires.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

Hey cupernico, you just used spacers and it has been working for 200 miles? That sounds awesome, I will probably grind down a little bit, then space out to make it fit better. I don't want to have to do it twice so it's going to have to be a permanent thing. I will be using locktite too.

What rims did you do the 20t rear on? Sorry about all the questions I just haven't spoken to many people who have actually done the 20t rear on a tomos.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

i forgot to delete that section of my last post, i was trying to quote him but it didnt work out. damn this site.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

hey jewish,

its the stock tomos wheels. yea, i just used washers as spacers, probably not as good as grinding the wheel down a bit as I know elliot from the creatures did to get that 20T on, but spacing the sprocket from the wheel seems solid enough. good luck!

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

nick, remember, if you are going to space the sprocket out, the deflection will cause additional wear on the front sprocket at an even higher rate.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

toss the wheel on a lathe. 20 seconds later your sprocket will fit. dont space the sprocket out, thats just stupid.

any machinist who charges you more than $20 to do this is a rip off.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

It won't be off by enough for it to matter to me. If I space it out 1/8in-1/4in at the most from where it was then I doubt any issue will arise. I talked to Dan at Action and he told me to just use a die grinder for the rim, even if it is not exact it's in the middle of the rim and won't make any difference. The rim won't be out of balance enough for it to be noticeable.

I plan on grinding down the wheel a little bit so I don't have to space the sprocket out that much, doing both should help out a lot. I don't think I will have to space it out but 1/8in, we'll see. I have some good ideas.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

If I knew anyone with a machine shop or lathe I would do that. That's why I want to grind it. If I find someone with a lathe that will do it for me than I won't have to do anything. The lathe was my first thought.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

yea i know its not the best of solutions, but this is like less than an 8th of an inch of spacing, no biggie, its only temporary. and its a moped.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

maps.google.com

machine shop

there ya go dude. tons of them around locally.

theyre usually in pinellas, but also around 40th and what not.

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

Glad to see you got some good rubber nick!

Re: I think I need to grind my wheel down? haha

That would have to be a very large lathe to accommodate that 16" wheel!
