Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

King Drunky JCams /

OOOOOOOOOOOooooooo it's a happy day in hobbit land.

First up, it's my birthday. Yep, 32.

Second, I got my much anticipated brand new Honda Camino rear pulley in the mail from Belgium!!

Got it from a guy I met on camino-tuning.be - he bought the last one from his local honda dealer and shipped it to me.

144 Euros shipped.

Now I get to run my TJT vario (My stock rear pulley was so shredded that the TJT wasn't smooth at all) that has been sitting in a box for far too long ;)

The specs:

A touch larger than the stock hobbit rear pulleys (that's awesome for better top end)

Completely different design and internals.

Here are the pics:

Right Side Up

Up Side Down

From the side

With my stock gear shaft in place and my honda hobbit clutch puller tool installed - Looks like it's gonna work!

Side by Side comparison - TJT vs. Stock Vario & Stock Pulley vs. New Camino Pulley (And one stock pulley taken apart)

On the Bike - Fits perfectly. Had to install a new belt... probably time as the one that was on it is over 30 years old with many many miles on it...)

Before this change the bike GPS'd at 55.5 on my friend's handheld GPS unit.

We'll see what this setup does once it stops raining.

Can't freakin' wait.

EPIC!!! HAPPY B-DAY ALSO!

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

that's a badass birthday present! I suspect you gain 5mph out of that pully! But what do I know about hobbits

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

Happy Birthday Justin.

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

Wow happy b day to you!

What set up are you running that you get 55mph out of a stock variator?

Thanks all.

I spent 300 today (birthday cash) on new moped goodies : )

70cc Athena (had to mod the head so the piston wouldn't touch)

Engine cases/transfer ports matched to Athena kit

Modded Reed Plate

Boysen Reeds

21mm Malossi Intake

21 Dellorto PHBG with Malossi Air Filter

Motomatic N8P Exhaust

Malossi Racing Gears

Custom Aluminum Roller Weights in the Vario (7g each)

I'll try out the ped tomorrow afternoon if the weather holds out...

Gotta go to be early tonight so I can get up early and go fishing with my dad : )

Good stuff.

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

Happy B-day dude make sure to have a cigar!

Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

Happy BDay J- mine was the 5th. We won't go into my age though...

Sweet looking drive setup. I know nothing about Hobbits but I'm beginning to pay more attention to them in the event one rolls into my stable. I'll look froward to your report.

I was just out tuning my Urban adjustable fly clutch, playing with center springs and variator weights. It's nice to be able to tune your drive train.

Sweet present for you!

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

Careful with that Athena, they are crank busters!

Sounds like a ripper!

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

Hmmm, looks like your belt could/should be sitting much higher on that rear pulley.

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

I bet its a lot smoother on the shifting huh? Most hobbits I have come across have NEVER been oiled in the back hub or had the rear variator lubed up regularly. As a result they tend to get kind crusty and not like to shift right.

Thinking gears next?

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

Yeah Tommy, that's why I had to switch to the new belt.

The old belt had worn down and was a bit thinner so it sat even lower in the pulley and had some slack too because it was stretched out.

Maybe I'll look into finding a bit wider of a belt.

Either way, it's gonna be better than it was I'm sure...

Tate, my old pulley was just shredded because it has had lots of extra power tugging at it daily for four years.

And as for gears... ummm, I already have the tough to find Malossi racing gears installed... and yeah they rock :)

Of too bed now gotta go catch a buzz and maybe some fish in the morning...

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

wow, that pulley design looks really simple and awesome.

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

Belated Happy B-day man!

MALOSSI GEARS!?!?!?!?!!! Now I'm jealous!

Any chance you could e-mail me where you found the gears at? How much did the pulley set you back? my hobbit's rear pulley is pretty dinged up, chewed up and spit back out (doesn't travel nice anymore)

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

This is the hobbit that made me fall in love with hobbits. Nice!

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

So whats up? That bad boy go like 88 now or what?

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

Everytime I see this thing is it better and faster! Looks so good in person also!

Went fishing all day today. From like 5 a.m. to like 3 p.m.

Caught a 5lb. bluefish.

Briefly hooked about a 10lb. tarpon and had on a 4-5' shark of some sort... blacktip? bull? Not sure on the species but he bit the body off the 11" baitfish I was using .

Just the head was left on my hook!

The coolest part of the day was that we were surrounded by as many as SIX manatees for several hours. Complete with a mom and baby manatee that was only about 3' long.

No riding tonight.

Sunburned.

Drunk.

Tired.

I'll test it tomorrow.

I'm off to bed.

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

fuck I miss FLA...

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

I love that damn hobbit. I got to ride it once and def love the variated shit.

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

So what weight set up are you running in the TJT?

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

King Drunky JCams /

I just replied to your TJT post, but I'll repeat it here...

I'm gonna test out my bike in a couple hours when my wife and kid leave for the day : )

Right now I have the six heaviest rollers made even heavier by me putting 2 split-shot fishing weights in each roller.

We'll see soon if I need lighter or heavier...

Gotta get ahold of TJ and get his GPS to see what my new top speed is like too...

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

Yeah, I keep hearing a mixed bag on the TJT, it is bigger so does the belt ride higher on the vario more than the stock ( unnotched)? If so, of course better top speed right?

Im kinda happy with the stock set up with the light ass PA 50 I weights, I zip up to 43 in no time...I dunno if the TJT is worth it...

Let me know

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

Similar take off...

Insane mid-range!

The top end doesn't feel as fast as it used to...

Gotta play with vario weights looks like...

The new rear pulley is performing nicely tho... Maybe I'll crack it open and put in the TJT spring and see what happens...

First, roller weight experiements....

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

I think Im gonna stick with the stock vario with the PA 50 weights, It dont get up to 50 but it hits 43 in no time flat.

I notched a variator a while back and it started dying at high speeds...I put a stock variator on , and voia no dying, but no 50 mpph..boooo

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

Dying how?

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

looking back at this, happy belated bday jcams, we share the same birthday!

ever get a gps of the top speed?

Re: Honda Camino Rear Pulley on my Hobbit - PICS

King Drunky JCams /

GPS'd 55.5 with the stock vario and pulley with just custom aluminum roller weights...

I've got to do some experimenting with this setup again, I just have not had time. Runs so good the way it is, I've not been in a super duper rush. So, I've had $320+ dollars of spiffy vario components just sitting in a box : (

I will say that the new rear pulley does not feel as smooth when slowing down as I had hoped for... I'm gonna crack it open and have a look at the internals and see what I can do... Possibly spring swap/mod??

We'll see soon and I'll bump this post when I'm dialed in.

Happy belated to you as well Adam.

We share B-Days with all these peeps too:
