Airsal piston FAIL

i bought a HOMOET6P and modified it to fit my tomos, i was very disappointed in its performance so i switched back to the estoril i had on the tomos before the 6p..... the power was still not all there..... not like it was running at flock yeah II ........ so i decided to take the bike apart to clean it ...... in taking the top end off i notice that theres a chunk of my piston missing and some "bounce" marks on the combustion chamber and the piston dome....... kinda weird that the bike still ran ...... i did have some issues with getting it started for the last two weeks ........ still dont know what caused this.... the cylinder walls are completely flawless.....

Re: Airsal piston FAIL

I had a piston that looked just like that, but it wasn't a moped piston. I think the ring snagged a port. Time for a new piston and rings.

already got a piston installed today (same day as finding the broken one.) and now i am very happy with my modded puch Homoet6p...... still using stock carb and stock ignition and now am constantly hitting 51 on the flats with it.......

Re: Airsal piston FAIL

WEWT. grats. sometimes bad things happen, but good bikes will keep on rolling. WTG trevor. ;D

thanks Bruce..... cant wait to ride with the halfwits

Re: Airsal piston FAIL

I was at Joel Kvermos for pancakes this morn and we were looking at two new kits he bought and both had inadequate ring gap. We brought them up to .015 inch each. Your piston damage looks like this could have been your problem

Re: Airsal piston FAIL

what kind of kit are you running?

Re: Airsal piston FAIL

is the ring pin from the top ring still there?

Re: Airsal piston FAIL

I too am thinking the pin came out allowing the ring to rotate and snag a port.

Re: Airsal piston FAIL

I agree... Can't really think of anything else that would cause that...

davkitts..... read the thread name...

a55er and chrisr...... yeah i think that the ring pin did come out ..... im glad that i checked this before it got too bad..... cylinder is flawless though .....

Re: Airsal piston FAIL

Yeah. That could be it too. My Airsal's ring gap was good when I got it... Either way good thing you took it apart.

Re: Airsal piston FAIL

it was running with that piston before i changed my estoril out for a homoet, and i was so disappointed with its performance........ little did i know i was losing compression ...... now that its back together with a new piston the homoet rips man ....

Re: Airsal piston FAIL

It looks like the ring pin came out. Is the top ring whole? Check the ring gap. It should be .006 to .008 inch. It didn't look like the ring spun and snagged the exhaust port.

Re: Airsal piston FAIL

By the way, you're damn lucky with the miles you went with it in that condition.

Re: Airsal piston FAIL

ya, you;re lucky lucky that the cylinder is still good. piston is way easier to replace.
