identify this hole on the side of my carb

check out the link and see if you can identify the hole on my carb just above the main fuel inlet. I have found that if I plug this hole the chappy runs good, but if I leave it open it sputters when i give it throttle. Is it ok to cap this hole off or will it hurt my motor. http://s281.photobucket.com/albums/kk205/ownerator84/chapy/ if the link does not work, please just copy and paste the address into you address bar and it will take you there.

Re: identify this hole on the side of my carb

It looks like a cross-drill hole that is supposed to be plugged. If you look at the carb (any carb), there are usually a few passages like that, usually for the low speed, air bleed and choke circuits. The main jet circuits pulls directly from the bowl/needle where everything else has to work around it.

Re: identify this hole on the side of my carb

so you are saying I can plug that hole and everything will be ok? I am haveing trouble getting this thing to run correctly, but when I plug this hole with my finger it runs like a top. I just dont want to damage anything.

Re: identify this hole on the side of my carb

stever: stop posting /

its a vacume spiggot, it should have a little condom looking cap on it. on some dirt bikes its used for auto mix... but couldnt tell ya what it would be used for on a chappy. that hole is leaning you out, it need to be plugged.

Re: identify this hole on the side of my carb

Thank you. I will stop posting now. Forgive a guy for overposting; I just wanted some more insight on the issue so I could take this chappy back to my grandfather and feel confident about it.

Re: identify this hole on the side of my carb

Looks like it could be a bowl vent, though if it were I don't know why it would run better when you plugged it.

Re: identify this hole on the side of my carb

100% bowl vent...

Re: identify this hole on the side of my carb

its on the back side of the throttle plate. its a ported vacuum line that should be plugged unless you have a Positive crankcase vent on the engine.
