1985 Puch Maxi

Hello I'm a Puch newb. I just bought a 1985 Puch Maxi for $100 in running condition just rolled 700 miles. I would like to add a big bore kit and with the information that I have gathered from this forum if I get the 65cc Metrakit I will NOT have to upgrade the carb, intake, or exhaust. I did a extensive search in this forum and did not fix and concrete answer so please don't tell me to just search. I am willing to spend a little bit of money since this will be a "daily" driver when I'm down at college so any other suggestions are appreciated. I already tightened the exhaust belt and filled the blinker fluid ;)

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

You should get a different pipe, intake, carb and air filter to go with your MK65... The intake and exhaust ports are big on that kit. If you are looking to go with stock stuff, get the Malossi kit from treats. pretty much a stock replacment but it's a 64cc or whatever...

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

Okay this any recommendations? I just want something the will be easy install and low maintenance. It doesn't have the be the fastest.

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

mopeds and low maintenance to not go hand in hand.

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

A 65cc metrakit with stock pipe and carb will work. Won't be very fast, but will have nice torque. Good for daily commuting.

Personally I'd invest in a pipe too, as that adds a little bit of overall power. Something like a Proma circuit (Great overall power, good combination with the metra) or a Tecno Estoril, as a lot of people are fond of that pipe.

The carb will do. Gets you great mileage. If you invest in a different carb, I'd go for a 15mm or 16mm for daily commuting. Adding a bigger carb will give you more overall power. Especially low and mid-range. It will use a bit more fuel, but nothing too drastic.

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

You will have to change the jetting in your carb regardless, FYI.

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

I know you can't be specific but what size jets should I buy I know ill have to get a couple different ones.

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

I got:

Tecnigas Next Exhaust For Puch

Puch 65cc big bore kit by Metrakit

* High Performance Red Foam Air Filter For Puch

In my shopping cart ready to buy what size jets do you think I will need? with the stock carb

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

my setup is maxi with:

za50 engine

MK 65cc

Technigas exhaust

14mm Bing with 64 jet and stock air filter

I love it and its ballsy maybe does 37 (speedo is broken). had a biturbo which worked out good too until it fell apart

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

Yeah, I agree with Roald. You should def. get a pipe with that.

I would look into a 15mm Bing or 15phbg. It will retain your lowend, but give you a slightly higher topend that the 12 or 14 bing won't allow for.

PS.

Roald I don't know how fast you got the K-Star Cylinder you shipped me, but we got it up to 53mph, then it started eating pistons like nothing else. It hangs on my wall now. :DD

Sorry to thread jack.

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

Get to know your ped and make it perfect stock before kitting. (: that way you know all you need to know, from experience.

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

Just out of curiosity, where were you planning on ordering that stuff from?

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

I got that K-star up to 49MPH once, I believe with 15-43 gearing. I didn't really like the feel of it revving the shit out of itself, felt a bit forced. Like it didn't come natural.

How is it eating pistons? Is it scraping em off or is it seizing them? And where does it leave marks? I recon you know I seized that kit once (While starting it) but it left no marks then.

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

Dude... go to treats.

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

I should amend that with -- the kits are the same price, the exhaust is $10 cheaper at treats, and the the air filters are $5 cheaper at treats, although they're out of stock right now. If those price differences (you might also want to check shipping costs) are enough to convince you to wait, then I would suggest that you do. Treats is awesome. And if one shop doesn't have what you want, you can always dig around through the shops on the shop links page.

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

They dont have have what i want

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

Roald -

it was breaking rings all around. never siezed, but piston rings would get welded to the ring inset, and in boost ports.

The rings were getting caught on the exhaust port most frequently, finally solved that problem and the problem moved to the boost ports, those were a bitch to chamfer, so never fully resolved.

I agree that engine was pretty weird revving out, almost like it would explode any given moment when run hard.

There was never any scuffing in the cylinder, however we chipped a bit of the lining around the bottom right side of the exhaust window, and the top left boost port.

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

I already do the bike goes 31mph

Re: 1985 Puch Maxi

I wanna get the same thing. just on a newport. let me know how it goes.
