Just bought a Vespa Grande 1978: Need modding help

I just bought this Grande and now I need to be able to make it up the hills of Portland because it's barely slugging up right now. I'm thinking my budget is around $300 and I want to upgrade it so that I can eventually put a kit on it but first I want it to be able to handle a kit before I put it on there.

This is my first bike but I've been told that this is the route I should follow.

1) Upgrade Carburetor

2) Get a new exhaust pipe.

Carb + pipe + air filter is the first step, for sure.

Simo circuit is a good pipe.

Anyone know how the low-end of the sim circuit vs estoril compare on a 13.13 grande? Hills out here to climb..

Joe: I have a used simonini circuit pipe here in town that i used on my ciao for sale if you want it

the simo circuit was pretty torquey on my sniglespeed ciao its a pretty good pipe.

mine isnt chrome its painted flat black but if you are interested hit me up

oh yeah it will be way cheaper than a new one
