someone give me run through

of possibilities as to what can screw up tuning up a phgb?

ive up jetted and down jetted ,cut the throttle cable, checked for air leaks

ran with the filter on and off

but thats about it

it ran pretty good without an airfilter and a 86 jet 45 idle

but when i put the filter back on it sucked so i went down in my main jet to 78 tried all needle positions and it barely ran

then went back to 86 main and a 42 idle and it ran good for the first few feet then just basically idled while i was on it

im runnin blanks right now as to what im forgetting

Did you try 76? 74? 80? 82? 84?

You can't really say that trying 2 jets is tuning a carb...

Try more jets. And if it's running rich with the 86, downjet. Not just to 78.

a 1 jett chang on a phbg is a big chang you cant jump like 10 at a time what it your set up where do you live

my bad i meant i went from the 86 and worked my way down to the 78

ive found that only when i run with the airfilter off will it actually get any power at a few of the jettings ive had with the filter on i will get lucky on the first kick and have it run like im goignt to get somewhere only to have it bog down on me and just run as if it were idling while im at full throttle and after i let go my bike will die

i have kstar 70 21mm phgb,techno bullet and im in the deserts of cali north of la

Was it running fine before the addition of the carb? It could be something different, like a weak/ intermittent spark or timing. Your bike may be tricking you into thinking your jetting is off. I would also go back and forth between tuning main jet and idle mixture. If you are too rich at Idle, It can make tuning your bike harder.

actually when i first got it it didnt run but i got it running for two weeks before i put all this stuff on but i had some problems with it every once in a while

i thought my jet was to small when it was stock because it wouldnt run right

but i did check the spark and its pretty strong i even got a new boot for it just cuhz

i was thinking my timing might be off but i dont really know how to check it shouldnt i have a line on my flywheel as a marker to start off of?

and would it be better to go with full advanced on the stator and a 0.24 gap?

Gap the points at 0.3mm to 0.45mm

You shouldn't have a timing mark on your flywheel, unless you put on there yourself. If you use the woodruff key, you can be sure the timing is within stock limits. Use the baseplate to alter the timing then.

Full advance is usually good, but not necessarily the best option. Fiddle with the positions a bit, see where it runs best.

how would i use the woodruff key to make sure its in stock limits??

and should it necesarrily be within stock limits?

and i put it at full advance and should i look to where it runs the smoothest right

gotta find where it purrs?

Your main jet only controls part of it, sounds like you need to move the needle around...

so i set my timing and damn!

ive almost got my bike runnin now

got it running for a min but it didnt go as fast as i feel it wants to

then it kinda died out when i let go of the gas soft sieze right?
