Hobbit Notched Variation - In Action Pic

Raymond Rexroad /

Notched my vario this weekend.

Also ported my spare P-2 cylinder some (chord width opened up to about 1", and port rounded slightly).

No GPS - who knows top speed . . . . how fast is pointing at the tenths on the odometer?

Anyway - wanted to see if my camera would catch the vario in action. Thought it was cool enough to share . . . .

Wow awesome picture. I think that is the best description (picture wise) that I have seen of the notched variator. That used to be the pa50II correct? Do you have a guess as to how much more top speed that got you?

This is a notched PA50II movable drive face (although the movable drive face is the same for the PA50I and PA50II).

Speed increase? 10 MPH or so. I've read that even stock motors can see a big increase, too.

I have PA50I weights, and the variator doesn't "shift" to the full-open position until about 35 MPH, then the shift is pretty dramatic - engine speed drops - speed increases. Then speed continues to slowly raise.
