anyone discovered the secret to moby timing slip?

since the last thread was last posted in?

im running a malossi 62 with a 19mm dellorto. when timed right, it absolutely rips. BUT, i absolutely cannot keep the cam from slipping. no matter what.

just put on a new cam, because my last one got shredded (the wholes turned into ovals). nothing will keep it from slipping, it literally lasts for maybe a day or two before getting totally off.

i have a CDI coming in a couple weeks, but i'd like to be able to ride until then without taking the magneto off every other day.

anyone discovered the secret to moby timing slip?

Which CDI sir?

I just picked up a ducati cdi. We can have a club!

Re: anyone discovered the secret to moby timing sl

ducati. have to wait for it to get here, though.

Re: anyone discovered the secret to moby timing sl

Are you using a tube and hammer type deal to install it like they show in the manual? I do believe they sell a sort of loctite type deal that is used on tapers.

Re: anyone discovered the secret to moby timing sl

yeah, im banging it on there pretty good.

Re: anyone discovered the secret to moby timing sl

Sounds like a bad cam to me.

If the taper isnt perfect it wont hold.

Re: anyone discovered the secret to moby timing sl

Maybe you could mate the two tapered surfaces using valve grinding compound between the two, working them against each other in back and forth rotation to try to get similar profiled surfaces. Clean before reassembly of course

Re: anyone discovered the secret to moby timing sl

ive used several different cams, to no avail. also, the timing nubs on my actual magneto are getting word down, which may be contributing. anyhow, ive read of other people having this issue with high rpm moby setups, but i know of no solution yet. hoping someones come up with something. . .

Re: anyone discovered the secret to moby timing sl

Cut a keyway and use a woodruff key?

Re: anyone discovered the secret to moby timing sl

Loctite 660. Might work. It is super high strength and meant for mating surfaces. http://www.loctite.sg/sea/content_data/93755_Loctite_660_Quick_Metal_Retaining_Compound.pdf
