So many answers.
So far no heat issues running without the fan shroud, I figure that's mostly there to keep the engine cool at idle, when there's no air rushing past.
The CDI unit, as well as the cdi cases, are stock from a si. looking with a timing light, the stock si cdi box has _almost_ no advance curve at all, and there's only one way to bolt the cdi stator on, and it doesn't allow for adjustment. I'm getting maybe 1mm btdc at idle, and 1.4-ish mm wot.
If I could advance that timing to maybe 2mm, I htink I could see some significant performance gains, but as it is, it tops out at maybe 40 (remember, I'm at 5,280' altitude) but the low end is pretty zippy.
I did nothing about the shitty casting. The casting on the kit I got was good enough for funk, so I just chamfered the ports and popped it together.
Yes, those are maxi ebrs. The bottom bearing cups are interchangeable between maxis and ciaos, but the top bearing cup on a maxi is a little bigger than the top cup (which is actually the cone) of the ciao. All I had to do was turn about .023" off the diameter of a maxi bearing cup and pop it in. I think I had to cut about 1/2" off the ciao headtube, too, to get the right length for the fork tube.
Thanks guys. I'm glad you like my bike!
