Close it off?! hell no! I'm going dual carb on this bitch. Also since the stock intake is timed by and rotary valve, all you really have to do if you don't want dual carbs is to just plug it. Doesn't need to be air tight. I bet a cork or rubber plug would do. Here's a pic of what I got from fred.
