Vespa Athena kits

is anyone running these?

pics?

info.??

treats and fred had/have these available

there is no info on the tuner spreadsheet?

Re: Vespa Athena kits

they looks pretty badass... thats all i know

Re: Vespa Athena kits

I got one from Fred. $130 shipped with all gaskets, Reed block, and exhaust header! I'm gonna put it on in a couple of weeks when schools over. I'm really excited about this one. It's true that the transfers match up perfectly. It is also true that the casting is pretty rough. So some dremel sanding will be in order at least for the exhaust port. I also would like to find a shorter intake. The one it comes with is suuuuuper long, but will clear everything nicely.

Re: Vespa Athena kits

What's your plan for closing off the intake in the case?

Re: Vespa Athena kits

please post pics + reviews for this

Re: Vespa Athena kits

Close it off?! hell no! I'm going dual carb on this bitch. Also since the stock intake is timed by and rotary valve, all you really have to do if you don't want dual carbs is to just plug it. Doesn't need to be air tight. I bet a cork or rubber plug would do. Here's a pic of what I got from fred.

Re: Vespa Athena kits

Just plugging it up sounds good but why would it not need to be air tight? That's just an air leak.

Re: Vespa Athena kits

It should be air tight.

Re: Vespa Athena kits

is that the same one from treats? it comes with all that shit and its cheaper?

Re: Vespa Athena kits

Yep! It's a super deal. I thought about it a little more and it does make sense to plug up the old intake. Having it open might prevent the necessary vacuum in the case from taking place and thusly nothting would be pulled from the reed valve intake. That's total speculation though. I'm definitely going to experiment a lot with this kit. It's just so cool! I really want to see if I can get dual carbs to work on it. As of now i'm planning for this set up:

-Reed valve athena kit (duh)

-19mm phbg w/ K&N filter (possible 13/13 on the old intake)

-Ciao techno estoril (hacked and welded on to the provided header)

-70cc Polini high comp head

-Polini Variator

This is a total shot in the dark, but I'm guessing I'll main jet somewhere in the upper 70s to mid 80s

Re: Vespa Athena kits

I am looking for a kit for my grande ... Who is Fred and where can locate him?

Re: Vespa Athena kits

i got the same kit though am still preparing my frame. My girl just sandblasted it for me. Stoked I also would like another intake for this beast but we shall see. Perhaps we can have one molded up by the wizard. I've hi-temp jb welded the intake and polished my old malossi matched case with emery cloth for a nice tight fit. Bought a real 10m TOP race crank (not the one from treats) It's the one with the polished arm. I plan on running a 19mil phbg with short screen air fliter because at this point my feet can almost kick the carb. Oh and did I mention a freshly repaired kinetic cdi..... As soon as the frame is powder coated I'll be in business.

One problem that i foresee is the exhaust stud is almost touching the case. This could cause problems because carving out that area could affect the cooling done by the flywheel. I will also need an adapter to mount my simonini pipe or I'll just throw on a tomos or puch. I'm still undecided.

If anyone modifies a pipe with that header I would really like to see pics..

I'm also interested in hearing more about other people trying this kit. like how you broke it in, or if the ring broke because of the pin being so close to the intake.=(

I'll be sure to post pics soon though.

Re: Vespa Athena kits

bump! Anyone building this? I really need info. I'd like to use a pipe that fits on a vespa because the header that comes with this kit is just shit. Though i'd need exhaust mount machined. I don't even know what these guys were smokin when they made this shit. The header won't fit around the engine when the kit is mounted up. And as for now, I'm screwed on the exhaust. The output shaft needs to be 22mm and the bolts are 44mm center to center .. .any help ?

Re: Vespa Athena kits

you can use the polini/malossi 4 petal intake im pretty sure. and i think a minarelli pipe will work. it seems like it wouldnt be that far off.

Re: Vespa Athena kits

I think if you cut the header at the base where it meets the exhaust flange you can rotate it and re-weld it back together. after you do that, you can weld up any Vespa pipe you want. I'm going to adapt my estoril that I already have on there.

I thought about the polini reed block too. Unfortunately, the bolt pattern forces it to face forward into the tank on a ciao. I think you could point the inlet straight up and then use some bendy hose and clamps to get a carb on there. OOOOOOR, your could fill in the reed block holes with JB weld and then redrill/tap a bolt pattern the lets you turn the reed block around. This is all theory, I'll let y'all know when I have proof.

Re: Vespa Athena kits

ᴛᴇʀʀʏ ᴅᴇᴀɴ /

that intake that comes with it is the worst design ever.. i understand it was made for bikes other than a ciao though, so it needs to be shaped all weird, but maan

i hope you ciao guys come up with something more clever than that!

also, someone hurry and get one running, i'm interested in knowing what a cheap fast ciao/vespa can do!

Re: Vespa Athena kits

Thanks.

Re: Vespa Athena kits

Thanks for the update Rob

let us know when you get it running!

Re: Vespa Athena kits

I'm looking for a Tomos or Minarelli pipe with around a 25mm header which mounts on the right hand side that will hopefully fit on a ciao. see pic for header visuals.

As for the intake, I'm thinking this will fit on the ciao with little modification to the frame.

I took out the crappy exhaust studs and am going for allens, also had to grind down part of the flywheel case section for a potential exhaust to fit around the bolts.

Re: Vespa Athena kits

the exhaust studs are 44mm apart from center to center if that helps. Thanks!

Re: Vespa Athena kits

Re: Vespa Athena kits

Anyone got one of these running? I have been peeing myself over here with suspense.

Re: Vespa Athena kits

?

Re: Vespa Athena kits

don't you need to swap out to a 10mm pin crank for one of these bad boys?

It looks a lot like a daelim intake would work on there. You can't really go much bigger than a 17 on a daelim, but if you double carbed that would be more than too much.

I would really like to run one of these, but the whole new crank thing like doubles the cost of the kit.

Re: Vespa Athena kits

So, I'm mostly posting on here because I really wish there had been at least some info on this kit when I was building this bike, so here's my experience. Maybe it'll be of help to someone.

The intake it comes with doesn't fit in any way. The bend isn't 90

Re: Vespa Athena kits

Willie you're awsome. Nice work. I have a feeling thats really the only decent place to mount the carb, maybe make a custom intake, but where else would the carb go without being in the way. The bike looks great tho.

Re: Vespa Athena kits

BIIIIINNNNNNNG! I love it. I've been waiting so long to see that kit installed. Looks awesome dude. Can we see a better pic of your crossbar situation? what pipe is that?

Re: Vespa Athena kits

Here you can see the crossbar, it's two lengths of 1/2" bar stock welded horizontally across the frame.

It's this pipe

It mounts up surprisingly well. it's spring mounted, so it's kinda "floating," allowing for quick pipe changes. Super rad, I love that pipe!

Re: Vespa Athena kits

Finally somebody posted results! Awesome job dude, That a really cool bike.

Re: Vespa Athena kits

Dig the bike. any heat issues running w/o the fan shroud?
