a35 green spring

Anyone have a trick for getting these suckers on and off? I found an old second gear clutch in my workshop that has a green spring on it but wasted cork and want to swap it onto a new clutch i have.

well i know when you get it off it flies off and hits you in the face. i rigged a crazy thing ghetto setup to make it work

Well, you can see the three tabs holding the spring in? You need to hook under the spring with a flathead at a tab and pry it over the tab to get it off. Very easy to do. Getting it back on is a bit harder, you will need some strong thumbs and two strong clamps to make it easier (channel locks will work). Basically you put the spring over one of the tabs and clamp it so it cant jump out, do the same on the 2nd tab and then force the spring over the third tab by pushing along the pring from the two clamps towards the last tab. Think of putting a tire on the rim... Btw, if you chop the spring the clutch will engage later but its harder to put back on.

a bench vise makes the putting on of the spring very managable.... taking it off as well .........
