A55 pedaling mechanism broke. no longer can pedal

yea well today i was pedaling my moped a bit away from my friends house since its really loud and it was a small incline so i stood up a little to help with pedalin, and what felt like a chain popping on a bike from it being too loose, i couldnt pedal, but the kick starting still works. whats wrong? the pedals just spin forward when i pedal it forward. thanks

Re: A55 pedaling mechanism broke. no longer can pe

chain is probably stretched out. easy fix.

Re: A55 pedaling mechanism broke. no longer can pe

no its not, i was saying an example for when you pedal a bike and the chain is too loose it pops just like a loose chain. the sound is what it sounded like.

Re: A55 pedaling mechanism broke. no longer can pe

Have you pulled the side cover off? These engines are uber basic. It cant be anything too catastrophic.

Re: A55 pedaling mechanism broke. no longer can pe

The pedal "Sprag" sheared...(big gear) cases must be split...Tomos components are made in India now...they forgot to harden the teeth on the big gear....take that shredded gear and hand it at/to somebody (make it count)...sb

Re: A55 pedaling mechanism broke. no longer can pe

Bummer. That sounds like you stripped the driveshaft gear. You need to split the case as it is the last thing that comes out of the engine when you disassemble it. This seems to be a problem when the spring thing on the pedal shaft is on the wrong side. It should be on the side under the carb. The part is about $120.

Re: A55 pedaling mechanism broke. no longer can pe

uber bacis doesnt mean piece of cake.... it can really be a time consuming pain in your rear........

Re: A55 pedaling mechanism broke. no longer can pe

There is nothing on these bikes that is hard to do. Pretty much any moped can be stripped down to every nut & bolt and put back together in a day, thus way I was attracted to these mighty little machines.
