Garrelli SSXL/NOI motor Tuners

So im finished building this SSXL, i want to know what people run for Timing on the CEV Stators for these because i know with most garrelli's over-heating can be a issue.

also what kind of speeds to expect, im gettting power up to 25ish MPH

i beleive the main jet in the 14:12 SHA is a 55, and im thinking its a bit lean.

im about to rebuild the exhaust and check for carbon build up in the exhaust port/manifold, and a b5es plug in attemp to raise compression.

also as with most italian bikes it has the dumb brake light has to be grounded for ignition to work thing, i guess a 12v led is too resistive? it dies every time i use the brakes.

so timing?

and good tricks for more compression? top speed?

what stock intake is best, as i have a few...

Judging by your gearing, 25 sounds like you're dialed in for a stock setup.

higher compression, ditch the head gasket

There's a NOI manual in the wiki i think, just set the timing from there. I've never had any problem with mine over heating.

Intake, the only ones i have are the curved ones, they seem to work just as good as any of them.

12v LED is too restrictive, i had to find some 6v ones to solve that problem. You can lose the brake lights and ground the blue wire coming from the stator until you find some 6v blubs.

While you're in the exhaust cut about an inch off the end, that supposed to give you a little more top end (just what i hear).

i have the same bike, it goes like 35 at least... and then the speedometer cant register.

can anyone tell me why this thing runs like shit somtimes? and runs smooth sometimes?

for instance, take it for a 1 mile ride, feels like its 4 stroking, let it sit for 10 min. take it for a ride again and it misfires, keybangs and runs like shit, i dont get it.

im going to rule out condensor here, i just took apart the top end to look at the piston/rings.

looks like there was a bit of wire floating around under the flywheel, i hope that was the problem, piston looks ok(looks like someone soft siezed it a few times before i got it)

i cleaned the carbon out of the exhaust port, seems to be no base gasket, hopefully silicone will hold up for a while.

how the hell do you set the points with the flywheel on?

yeah the points placement on that flywheels seems like a mistake. it's nigh impossible to see. I usually use the cigarette paper trick. If you have a trash flywheel you could always cut it up and use it exclusively for points gapping, then pop the real flywheel on once the points are set.

I use a tiny sliver of a spark plug box, 2 screw drivers, flashlight in mouth and a whole lot of respect for swiss watch makers. It's a tight squeeze but you can do it.

Quatto that's a good idea, that would have made life a lot easier over last winter.

yeah it seems to be running ok again, i hate to hand it over to somone only to have it constantly be breaking down.

it feels like it loses power at the top end, but i dont think its a 4 strokeing cuz the plug is a lil white, could that be a lean bog?

thanks for the help, i think it must of been that thin peice of wire floating around the flywheel giving it erratic spark.

I have a coupel of these.. I cut up off of the v1's... makes it nice .. and easy .. to install the new points:)

its running like shit again, im thinking the condenser finally.

i let it sit for 10 minutes, and then it would run great for about a quarter mile then like shit, then not at all.

i've never been soo frustrated, only with a goddamn Italian bike.

its half your old garrelli, and half of another donor SSXL, i built it for malika's sister.

yeah its looking nice, and finally running well.

just gotta fix the brakes up and im done.

uhhg what a headach.
