garelli NOI 2 speed; springs?! rubber!? cover thin

elliott/ultrav /

alright- so my baby the super cutie blue beast is messin up on me!

ive been using motul 30 weight and its been performing like a dream- CRAZY low end. and then after it shifts and hits the powerband just flies!

so the other day im riding and it makes a weird noise but continues to ride- it felt like it wouldnt shift to the next gear- or it was stuck in the second gear..

it would idle and still performed.. not well- but okay.

later i killed the engine after like 5 blocks to take a look around..

compression was still good- and everything else seems legit-

fast forward..

i take the clutch cover and here are my findings..

(sorry about the quality of the pictures, they are from a poorly light area with an iphone)

the rubber looked good- except, questionable on the bell thing. see below(pink area)

hmmm perhaps i should swing by and do a comparison? but i dont know how that material would grip the other rubber.. hmmm

anyways do i need to get a new bell? is it mashed up beyond repair? is there anyway to reline the rubber?

the main gears look solid, and spins freely..

i saw quattos post in the past and there was no glitter when i emptied the oil.. all moving parts seems in good shape except that mashed up bell noted above..

any insight will be very helpful. thank you kindly.

oh yea!

malossi 62cc, 4 pedal intake, 21 dell carb, motomatic destroyer pipe.. 10x42 gearing(im sure that is giving the clutch some stresss--

discuss.

Re: garelli NOI 2 speed; springs?! rubber!? cover

Was not aware you also had a 2-speed. Titties.

couple of observations:

that little "plus sign" thing that the starter cam presses down on will cut into your clutch bell over time, you can just weld new material onto the dents and then grind it down to fix it. Yours doesn't look too bad, but if it gets too much play, things can get a little dicey.

the cork pads on my plate are in waay worse shape than yours. I think you're fine.

I've been soooooooo tempted to experiment with an inner shoe clutch. If I lived close enough to Treats HQ I would have already done a comparison. if you can find a clutch that fit in place of that small star rubber, and make the springs fit in the clutch, you could leave the big outer rubber and make the little guy a tune-able shredder.

Is the center part of your clutch bell ripped out? I feel like I'm staring at an Escher drawing.

my SSXL brothern..

thank you for the response-

so i put it back together and still nothing :( the clutch just isnt grabbing!? oh nooo.

anysuggestions?

the center of the clutch bell sits a little recessed when off. but its still attached but those metal arm things.

if i get adventurous enough to head to the mission tomorrow ill pick some of those clutches up and do a comparison.. but until then, any ideas?!

:(

Re: garelli NOI 2 speed; springs?! rubber!? cover

Elliot, those treats clutches are for the kick start noi's, they won't work on a pedal start.

If knew more about the 2 speeds, i'd offer an opinion but alas no dice.
