Who else has a kited pyramid reed derbi?

The bike is a pyramid reed with a well broken in metrakit 65cc kit, phbg 19mm race carb, 118 main jet (witch seems big to me but any smaller the plug turns gray), 45 idle and the needle is a w9 all the way up. A homemade puch simonini pipe. tjt variator (2 green rollers filled with solder and 4 blue filled with resin all together they weigh about 2oz). I have machined some material off of the rear pulley for more low end. It

Timing?

Re: Who else has a kited pyramid reed derbi?

The bike ran fine for years with the kit. I recently put the carb, pipe and variator on and that is when it started trying to kill me. I have cleaned and checked the points, but have not messed with the timing.

I am in love with your bike.

Check your timing, if you've been running the motor hard for a few years, your points cam may have worn, causing incorrect timing. Stock should be 1.8mm BTDC

Re: Who else has a kited pyramid reed derbi?

crank seals?

Re: Who else has a kited pyramid reed derbi?

I would get a degree wheel and dail the engine it..

Car jump pack to power the timing light gun

timing light

white paint marker(to mark the case and the magneto)

degree wheel

Hmm advancing it 10 degrees... is where you want to start..

This is a racing bike correct? or everyday rider?

Re: Who else has a kited pyramid reed derbi?

Oh, i see. My bike would overheat sometimes because the weights were too light. Like, drastic difference. i don't run a pump on the H2o moby, nor an overflow tank, so when it overheats it dumps water out the pressure valve. A nice warning for seize prevention.

So yeah, i would say heavier weights/lighter spring.

Re: Who else has a kited pyramid reed derbi?

Bret I think you are on to somthing.

And yes its an everyday rider.

Re: Who else has a kited pyramid reed derbi?

Hey, sorry I can't help, but can you post a better pic of the bike? I need a new desktop image.
