19mm dellorto? uhh...

i ride polini e-50 with 19mm dellorto carb...

i tuned it in last weekend. followed all the steps n stuff and my bike was running pretty sweeet, yeah like rippin. i rode to work today(like 15 miles or so) and felt like i was getting more outta my carb than i have before which was rad. it was going good off the line, mid range and top end was killin it. about halfway to work i decided to put a new plug in just for kicks and to see what kind of a mixture i was getting. got to work and there was little color to the plug. what color was there was lookin alright, a little lean i thought and decided to tinker with some stuff...

i took off the bowl of my carb and the main jet was just sitting in it. it came out but i have no idea when(presumably while riding...).

any one else have this happen to ya? your main jet isn't in but somehow your bike is working better than it was before?

i ended up spending some time adjusting shit on the carb but haven't been able to achieve the same results as before. it's now back to how it was when i tuned it last weekend and is sucking balls...wha happen?

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

Guess a bigger jet could help.

Now that you know it runs and rips great when the gas goes through a big hole.

Poor mileage tho'.

Check that wiki spreedsheet now.

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

Awesome dude go jetlesssss

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

yea run with no jet. Thats weird, cause when the jet fallls out bike=no run. Maybe you have a magical moped?

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

the jet that fell out was an 86. after i found out it fell out i tried running it with a 99 which was too much. which doesn't make any sense to me seeing as there was NO jet in it and it was working well...

i tried running a number of jets between 86 and 99 but was unable to achieve any desirable results...

i think i'm gonna just start over from the beginning and see what i can make work.

i was looking for that spreadsheet but the one i found had like 3 people listed on it.

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

i know dude, i can't make any sense of it...

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

What kit are you running?

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

64cc polini with estoril pipe.

i should also mention that before i tuned in my carb the other weekend(the correct way) i ran it with the choke on pretty much all the time. obviously, not the proper way to have it set up, but it worked better that way...a temporary fix that i just kept going with cuz it ran well...

BUT, since i wasn't running it like that when the jet wasn't in i don't know how relevant that is.

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

There is no way... That hole is huge. I dont' even think a massive airleak would even it out with that much fuel coming in...

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

i assure you, that is what happened. i have no way of telling when the jet came out and as far as i know there are no dark curses on my bike that would cause it to fall out while my bike was just sitting there.

maybe i'll try putting the jet back in the bowl and run it like that for a minute to see if it will work again...

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

nevermind...i found the spreadsheettttt

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

uhhh...okay, so i just rode my bike with my main jet sitting in the little cup in the bottom of the bowl. same results!! it works but i have no idea why?! maybe i just need to put a jet larger than 99 in there.

what do you guys think?

according to the spreadsheet it doesn't look like people with setups close to mine have really huge main jets...the plot thickens

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

Hey Nick, I'm running a 109 in my 70cc reedvalve athena w/ 19mm phbg and estoril. You might need to go bigger!

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

cool dude! i'm gonna double check for airleaks when i get home and then go with a way big jet i guess and see what the results are. this just doesn't make sense to me though because the 99 was feeling like too much, yet without a jet in it it feels good. maybe i'm thinking in terms of non-phbg carbs though...

with the 99 when my bike was idling if i pulled the throttle all the way back it just killed the engine but it doesn't die if i do that when there is no jet in there!!! ahhhh i'm goin outta my mind trying to wrap my head around whas happening heree.

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

Hmmm... I don't think your bike should not be performing that poorly in that jet range. Is the choke off? You should only need the choke to start it up. My bike still runs fine with a 99 (instead of a 109) jet but it gets hot after a few minutes... Are you running an air filter??

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

choke's off.

yes i have an air filter.

Re: 19mm dellorto? uhh...

No jet destroyer!
