broken pull-start

My pull-start variator's outer clutch bell broke today at the most inopportune time. I was accelerating from a stop light when things suddenly went all wrong. I look down at my motor after I loose all power and have my motor reving out of control to see the outer clutch plate spinning out from the drum of the variator onto the pavement and after a hop launch straight at a white Lexus in oncoming traffic. Luckily nothing outside the variator was harmed but my pride.

I have till Friday to get my moby back on the road, what should I do to fix my variator dilemma?

ER3 w/ idle clutch?

Go back to stock variator with the varplus installed and just pray that I can bump start the motor?

Get a Puch?

I have no clutch now, so regardless if I get the motor started, I have no go. :(

Jesse, that thing was balanced perfectly, your craftsmanship was flawless (save the pain job). I guess the stock outer clutch just is not cut out to handling the added hp from an av10 motor or it was some how compromised over the years.

like everything out of billet? or just the pull start groove? That part seems like the strongest part on mine. That little guy spun down the road, over the curb, past the guard rail, down a highway off ramp hill, and a good 15 feet into a drainage ditch full of large rocks. The pull start groove was not bent or damaged in any way.

Ok, an update for you all. This is apparently a common problem and is bound to happen if you remove the starter clutch shoes. It is so common in fact that Malossi makes a part called the VarioBlock to reinforce the outer clutch plate.

Well, I'm pretty sure that me and you are the only ones who don't run the starter clutches on our mobies, but in the land of kickstarts I guess it's common. Crazy.

Bummer. I thought a few west cost kids were running or had run a kick start on their av10's.

Well, keep the starter clutch in there regardless!
