polini manifold to bing seal

i had an air leak before and soft seized because of it. i then used a compound to seal between the manifold and the bing. but it makes it difficult to change jets. i hear the o-rings work well. but before i start cruising i want to get some second opinions.

here is the o-ring i found at autozone. there was no heat test on it. do you think it will get hot enough to melt the ring?

on the top of the bing there is a little gap that makes me a little nervous. will this matter with the o'ring in?

Re: polini manifold to bing seal

If the O-ring is gas proof, then you're all set.

Re: polini manifold to bing seal

didn't think about that. gonna go dip now.

Re: polini manifold to bing seal

your fine, intake and carb is the coldest part of the engine.

tap it on with mallet to make sure its all the way on there.

Re: polini manifold to bing seal

seriously? you hammer on your carb? I know you mean lightly... but it seems like overkill.

Ben Van Zoest /

Use a C-clamp some thin wood tp protect the intake hole, squeeze the O-ring a little bit, thighten the clamping screw. I love C-Clamps...

Re: polini manifold to bing seal

I hit mine with a hammer (well, a rubber mallet). It doesn't seal worth a darn if I don't.

Re: polini manifold to bing seal

hey samee

!

Re: polini manifold to bing seal

I put mine in a vice, and use a beer can shim to close off that top hole. Bings suck at sealing to intake manifolds. You should probably just weld it. Oh, and when you want to change jets, just take the whole damn intake off. Way easier than trying to get the bing to seal to the intake again.

Re: polini manifold to bing seal

yeah, get a mallet acrylic or rubber and hit it on all the way.

over kill would be smothering the whole bing in RVT

Re: polini manifold to bing seal

Please do not hit your Bing. I don't care how light you're doing it, because certain parts of the Bing have really thin metal and could easily get damaged. I don't want to end up buying a "perfectly good" Bing carb on the buy/sell someday and wind up having a fucked up float bowl seal. Or worse, a slide that doesn't move as freely as I'm used to with other Bings that haven't been fucked with. This is literally nuts and bolts, people. Before you go hitting something, just ask yourself if the people who originally assembled your moped had to hit that part the same way. Probably not. An O-ring should be the most you'll ever need for your Bing-to-manifold seal.
