Cady daddy needs a little more speed

Hey! this is my first post even though ive been reading the forums for some time now.. I bought what i believe to be a 1975 cady. I moved away for school and had to leave it at my parents house,, now they are coming to visit me for easter and im hoping they have the room to bring my cady to me. the problem is i could only get it going about 40km/h the last time i rode it.. i noticed the site www. daves motors . com (i think anyway) and it sold bore kits, carbs, and smaller sprockets for good prices for pocket bikes,, unfortunately i have a poor memory and have no idea what my engine looks like or even its size! :S does anyone know the cadys stock bore size and stroke length? and if the bottom end can match up to the bolt patterns of the after-market cylinders and carburetors? and if not, is there room to tap some new holes?? im lookin for some extra ponies and a higher rpm,, torque isnt tooo big of an issue because the city im at(halifax) is pretty flat and i dont mind a pedal start. and im 170lbs. any info will be appreciated, lol i want the parts here so the second i get my cady she can be retrofitted to the new millennium.

i just browsed the motobecane pics and realized its a 1974,,it looks identical to this one : http://www.mopedarmy.com/photos/brand/1/4551/ same colour and everything,, only difference is that mine doesnt have the mirror and my muffler has seen some oxidation.. i even had to mount a second gastank like they did in this pic and i used the same generic lawnmower one.

yea well your a faggot!!! I would get rid of it if i weren't a student, but i am, and its all i got. and nice job backing up your statements, im actually kinda curious why you think cadys are fucked? its the only moped ive ever seen, and my mom likes it so eat shit.

owned

Re: Cady daddy needs a little more speed

The Cady is a fun little moped for kicking around, but you'll be hard-pressed to coax it past 40 KPH. It was more or less designed to prop up on the back of a Winnebago and to buzz around campgrounds. It is a very limited design as for speed/power. From what I can tell there are absolutely no performance parts available for bolt-on horse power. And as for re-gearing, this will not accomplish any speed increase as it will require more torque to reach your max RPM. However, if you have some 2 stroke tuning skills you could always try some creative ways of increasing the charge of air/fuel in the combustion chamber, or possibly modify that super restrictive exhaust.

There is a guy on the mopedriders.org site (rebelrob, I think)that has managed to transplant a Motobecane AV7 engine onto his Cady. That engine has quite a few bolt-on accessories available and will likely be your only real hope of getting any power for that bike.

However, your best bet is to just get that thing running as well as you can and just enjoy it for all of its limited capabilities. And if you are looking for a speedier ped, do consider upgrading.

Re: Cady daddy needs a little more speed

kyle, calm down. i own a cady and there is some merit in what craig is saying when he says they are fucked. they are slow as hell. unfortunately, there isnt much you can do in the way of performance for them either. rthor is right though, with some effort you can mount an av7 on there, but it will take a good amount of work. i would say ride it how it is and enjoy it. my two cents.

Re: Cady daddy needs a little more speed

cadys are beautiful little peds. if it runs well as is, i say either keep it stock and enjoy it, or sell it and get something with more performance capabilities like a puch..or if you love the french-ness of it, go with a peugeot 103 or a motobecane 50V instead.

lol@ "my mom likes it"

i like the adjusting the port size idea,, i think cleanin up the exhaust would help too

Re: Cady daddy needs a little more speed

could you bore it out and put a bigger piston in there, i know it depends on stroke length, but i'm sure there's a piston that will fit. then custom fit a pipe, and bigger carb and fly....but i dont know the first thing about them. i just know if it was me i would be slightly upset hearing all this, but you only paid 50 bucks.

Re: Cady daddy needs a little more speed

nothing to be upset about, they are fun, just not fast. i can guarantee that if you mounted an av7/10 on there you would have the fastest cady know to man. do it.

Re: Cady daddy needs a little more speed

wait those don't have a swinging engine do they? if not weld up an expainsion chamber.bigger carb.

can go any where really read jennyings http://edj.net/2stroke/jennings/

port and polish. lathe, mill, or deck the head

put on better engine.

Re: Cady daddy needs a little more speed

cadys are hardly motobecanes.. they were sold at canadian tire in the 70's = garbage. i've seen enough cadys to know they arent worth my time... or anyones for that matter. your better off kitting your schwinn 21 speed.

the motor is pretty retarded with the stator slammed behind the clutch. and the tiiiiny intake wraps around from the front. might be nice if a av7 would fit on it.

if you bought it for 50 and it runs alright, you should honestly sell it for atleast 200 and make a sick profit off of it.

Re: Cady daddy needs a little more speed

harsh.

i think caddys look fucking cool.

you dont have to be a dueck about it.

Re: Cady daddy needs a little more speed

the cady is cool if it's running and in decent shape because it's a pretty bike and you don't see them every day. if you want something that can be made to go faster if you choose and still the classiness, go 50v or peugeot.

not that familiar with tuning and tinkering? buy a maxi.

have fun.

Re: Cady daddy needs a little more speed

thanks for all the info guys,, based on what you guys said,, and after alot of reading i think im going to clean the exaust, a smaller sprocket on the back, yea i heard what someone said about how i wont have enough torque to reach top speed,,, buut thats what the pedals are for... and hopefully get the carb adjusted right( fouls the plug, needles a tad bent too). i was dreaming about a new engine, but like everyone said,, the cady isnt worthy enough for it.. i was also thinkin bout some white mag wheels for style points, and a milk create on the back for when i go for groceries. hopfully i'll be able to squueze a km/h or two from that smaller gear ratio.
