Running your av7 parmakit w/stock pipe/variator?

How's that working out for you?

I just ordered mine . . . i have either a 15mm dellorto sha or a 19mm dellorto phbg (and appropriate intakes) . . . was planning on using the 19mm on it? Also jetting on the 19mm . . . I'm thinking low 90's? I'm at sea level, and it's getting warmer . . . Also fuck a filter that shits well buried in the frame.

Yes I know there's a spreadsheet, but no one's posted a stock pipe set up yet.

Re: Running your av7 parmakit w/stock pipe/variato

....cause no one is running a stock pipe with that....Jessica Longo did for a split second and got very mild gains....not enough to justify the $200....

Low 90s? No way. I run a ninja and run in the mid-eighties....

Re: Running your av7 parmakit w/stock pipe/variato

thanks for the tip on jetting. how mild mild gains are you talking though? i only want to cruise like mid 30's . . . don't need to blast, just want to keep up with city traffic. you don't think the kit and a bigger carb would do it?

Re: Running your av7 parmakit w/stock pipe/variato

the thing is, you should be able to achieve those speeds very easily with an all stock bike and maybe some very light porting and variator work for a total cost of around $0-$30.

seems kind of pointless to put wear on a $200 kit without taking advantage of it. . .

for real, a stock set up with mild mods will get 35mph. add a pipe to your 19mm intake/carb to get mid to high 40s

Re: Running your av7 parmakit w/stock pipe/variato

There seem to be several advantages to me of running the kit with the stock pipe, without messing with the variator:

# I can't port anything without hurting its reliability - I'm just not experienced enough. The kit comes with good porting and larger displacement, so it gets around that inability of mine.

# The stock pipe is quiet and hides unobtrusively below the side covers. My bike is mint and beautiful - I don't want it to be loud and aftermarket looking

# The process of removing, messing with, and replacing a motobecane variator without hurting it looks difficult and time consuming. Plus, the stock one works fine.

Yeah I know if I just ported my stock cylinder, split my variator and removed two of the balls, and put an aftermarket pipe on it I could get to the same place (or even faster) . . . but it would take awhile and I think I would fuck something up. So my thought was, slap on the kit and tune the carburetion a bit, and cruise around 35, with two people, even. Does that sound reasonable? If anyone can tell me, or has any idea about what size carburetor would be optimal, I would appreciate it so much!!

Re: Running your av7 parmakit w/stock pipe/variato

Running the Parma on the stock pipe is okay. You get a bunch more torque and faster than stock, but only the low 40s. this was with a 19mm carb. It will provide you with what you are looking for.

please PLEASE case match it

Re: Running your av7 parmakit w/stock pipe/variato

Yeah, the kit on the stock pipe will be fine.

PUT A 19mm PHBG ON IT. TRUST ME. I had a 16SHA....NO GOOD. Terrible in fact. That's a big kit that needs a big carb.

As for jetting, I actually have a 96 in mine which runs rich, obviously, but not by much. It's so good at high rpm's, in fact, that I don't even worry about running it WOT for miles and miles. Oh yeah....NO AIR FILTER. I've put probably 800+ miles on the kit like that....NO PROBLEM. Piston is smooth as the day I bought it.

It probably should be in the low 90's, like 91, 92. Having no air filter makes a huge difference. But I also have a Leo Vince pipe, so yeah...you might be a bit lower. And, if you're not going to case match it, then you'll be even lower.

So, yeah...Allen is right. Mid 80's jet for you probably.

Re: Running your av7 parmakit w/stock pipe/variato

Thanks dudes. And yes Motobrokane, I will match it of course . . . I don't consider that "porting" since it doesn't change the port timing. I'll post results when I get it together.

Re: Running your av7 parmakit w/stock pipe/variato

I'll look forward to the results! Keep us posted!

I just snagged one of these bad boys from QK and I am loving it. Right now I am running a stock pipe (AV10 Sito also from QK because I killed yet another stock AV7 pipe) and an SHA 15:15 with a 75 jet. The cases have been port matched and I have a brand new variator on it. Funds are prohibitive at this time so it will be the stock pipe and SHA for a while (ninja G3 and a PHBG 17 or 19 in the future). I was clocked at 40 to 41 mph during BBQ 15 while I was breaking the kit in. So far I give the kit a solid review (we will se just how solid a review it gets once it is done).

Re: I know this thread has been dead for a month a

Only 40mph? I was hitting close to that on the ride to the beach with a stock ported fast cylinder and a 15/15 sha.

A G3 and a phbg must really open those guys up! Almost makes it pointless to do anything but that.

Fun moby times!

Re: Running your av7 parmakit w/stock pipe/variato

I did it and the bike had real good low end but the top end was only like 43.

Re: I know this thread has been dead for a month a

I also had my timing slip almost 90 degrees out on the ride, so it was less than dialed in.

Re: I know this thread has been dead for a month a

Mike you were running the parmakit on the long ride?!? Damn I didn't know, I'm building mine now and woulda hounded you with questions on tuning!

feel free to shoot an email or whatever with anything you have. I can try and answer what i can.

Re: I know this thread has been dead for a month a

I have been running this kit for over a month and it Blast Hard. I love it.

Re: Running your av7 parmakit w/stock pipe/variato

You can port your cylinder without changing the port timing, you just widen the ports horizontally, rather than vertically.

Re: Running your av7 parmakit w/stock pipe/variato

Seriously, how hard is it to follow the french magazine article on porting? Raise the exhaust a hair under 3mm (widen it 1.5mm), drop the intake 3mm and widen it 3mm and match it to your intake manifold. It's no brainer shit, just mark the area you need to take off with a felt tiped marker and go slow and it's better to take off less then more.

what setup are you running
