I have been rebuilding my Garelli engine due to a crank seal. When I saw that the clutch that I had put into the bike about a month ago was crumbling around the lip. I was curious if anyone has had this happen or what exactly could be the cause.

was it rubbber?
SABAT!
Yes it is rubber. And no sign that a rock or pebble had gotten inside to eat i up either.
i would run it.
its probably was just broken before you put it in and then when it spun at 8k it broke off
i would clean out the inside of the clutch side with alot of carb cleaner and visual inspect it for peices then keep blasting
make sure you use nondetergent 30wt oil in your tranny.
I keep an eye on that... 30ND all the way... The rubber isnt brittle either.....
When I put it in it was pretty stable but of course there is always a possibility that it had a light fracture that I could not see. It is running a 30W non detergent.
