Stock Moby 7 29mph added SHA15, still 29mph?

I expected to see like 1-2mph out of it. Is that unreasonable for a stock ped?

I tossed on the 15/15 with the stock 68 jet while I waited for my pack of jets to come in. Ped decent, a little boggy, plug chops were ok. I swapped out the 68 for a 60 jet last night and re-GPS'd but didn't see any increase. Ped feels slower/boggier than it did with the 68 in it. Does that sound right?

I plan on tossing on a G3 in the next few weeks, is there anything else that could be holding me back that I should look at before the pipe?

keep jetting.

Do you think down or up? My plug chops looked the same, but throttle response went down.

Re: Stock Moby 7 29mph added SHA15, still 29mph?

i had a 62 in my 15 on my moby..

Re: Stock Moby 7 29mph added SHA15, still 29mph?

68? Should probably be a 58. I have a 58 jet in my 14.12 on a B-Series 50VLC, with metal filter + black cap. Runs perfect across rev range, perfect plug, 33mph. Check tuning spreadsheet too for other stuff.

Re: Stock Moby 7 29mph added SHA15, still 29mph?

Is a G3 pipe going to fit on a Moby 7? Wanna see a pic either way!

I'm going to cut and reweld where needed. I'll post up pics through each step.

So it looks like I might have another problem. Seems like a 60 jet should work ok for my application.

I'm going to take the screen filter and black cap off and go for a spin to see if it changes things.

Re: Stock Moby 7 29mph added SHA15, still 29mph?

the G3 will probably fit, it will just come up at an angle instead of being horizontal. you may be able to mount the rear support on the seat post, or on the gas tank. biggest problem will be replacing the skin on the inside of your leg, as it will burn off regularly. if you can cut and re-weld the header so that the pipe stays horizontal, you'll most likely have a pedal clearance issue. i'm also not sure it'll run right with a stock cylinder (unless you're porting the hell out of it, and decking the head...). the G3 is really designed for kits, and that's where it shines. i would try the simonini, if it were me.

i made the same carb swap on my seven (15.15 del sha clone), with the same results. i didn't make a custom 15mm ID intake yet, though. have you done that? if not, the carb size won't make much of a difference, as it'll be restricted at the intake. it came with a 58 jet, and bogged constantly. i'm currently running a 68 jet, and it's four stroking at 7/8 throttle. it runs great with the airbox and side covers off, though. i modified the airbox by drilling it full of holes, and i'm downjetting a little (trying a 66 first) to solve the problem. i don't think i'll see an increase in speed until i make a larger intake, though, at which point i'll need to re-tune all over....

Hmm.. Interesting. Sounds like the problem should have been expected then. I've got a 65 jet kicking around that I might try out. I need to make an intake as well. I wonder where I can find 15mm ID tubing?

I pulled off the side panel and filter a little while ago, but it didn't make much of a difference at all.

Strangely it picked up when it was choked. Does that make any sense?

Re: Stock Moby 7 29mph added SHA15, still 29mph?

Sound like an upjet is need.

If it runs better at choke then you are running lean.

Re: Stock Moby 7 29mph added SHA15, still 29mph?

I am running a 60 jet. with just one screen in the screen and no black cover.

I am running a 68 jet on a 15 del with a high flow filter, a NOS pipe, case match, and ported piston windows (at sea level, on the fast cylinder, i think). If you have a cable choke version, cut the choke cover thingy so that it doesn't restrict the flow...it will probably give you that boost you are looking for.

^ that was sort of unclear. The "cover thingy" I am referring to is the spring-loaded tab (with the hole in it) that restricts the airflow when the choke cable pulls it over the air inlet in the carb. On cable choke SHAs, this never fully closes and blocks about 1/4 of the intake.

Assuming you do have a cable choke carb, here is how increase the flow (you need a dremel or equivalent)

To grind it down, engage and then release the choke lever on the handle bars. Then carefully remove the carb from the intake (no need to disconnect any cables) and pull off the air filter. You will see that the tab is blocking the air inlet. Use a sharpie to mark the corner of the tab that is blocking the inlet, and grand it down in the shape of the inlet. Done.

Re: Stock Moby 7 29mph added SHA15, still 29mph?

Both my 14.12 and 16.16 cable chokes are completely out of the way when cable is adjusted correctly... ?

You guys seem to be running high jets for these setups, hmm.

Re: Stock Moby 7 29mph added SHA15, still 29mph?

Hmm, I was not able to get it adjusted to it would both fully cover when choked, and fully flow when not. I agree that 68 is high. I started at 60 and it was SUPER lean (and I have checked for airleaks). Who knows.

Re: Stock Moby 7 29mph added SHA15, still 29mph?

I never pull it up all the way and hold it there anyway - I don't ride in <40* or so. As soon as it starts I back off on the choke immediately and it runs.

Re: Stock Moby 7 29mph added SHA15, still 29mph?

Ya I am still trying to get my maxi running perfect with my 15/15 Sha. and Bitturbo pipe. I have a 64 jet now but it boggs alittle at full throttle and I haven't seen any speed boost, but I was running 32mph and that was all stock. So I don't know how much more speed I am gonna get out of the carb

Re: Stock Moby 7 29mph added SHA15, still 29mph?

air leak?

68 seems super high.. sounds like you are running lean from the descrip.

Problem solved.

Threw in a 65 jet last night, started running 31 on the flats. Apparently 68 is a little too big, and 60 is a bit too small.
