21mm Mikuni

Just found this on ebay and snatched one up. I'm sure the intake will not work but for $40 you can't go wrong. I can also get jets at any local motorcycle shop. Has any one used one of these?

Re: 21mm Mikuni

I think jcams is all about these

Re: 21mm Mikuni

Yeah, Jcams ordered me one of those and he's fabricating a intake for my tomos. He ordered a 20mm Mikuni for me though.

Re: 21mm Mikuni

Yeah the VM series that JCAMS orders for people(I have one myself from JCAMS) are different than the one you posted. The size of the inlet for air where the air filter goes on is like half the size of mine.

Check this picture out for reference. Notice the massive diameter where my air filter goes on. I have a 20mm and mine looks massive compared to the ebay one you posted. Trust me go with the VM20 for 30-40 dollars more and you won't regret it.

Re: 21mm Mikuni

Post a pic of the front of the carb with no filter. I think for the price of this carb I will be very happy. It will still flow better than the 16mm I have now. It should be very similar to a delorto 21.

Re: 21mm Mikuni

Here is a pic of no air filter. The opening is probably more than 1 1/2 inches in diameter. The one you posted from ebay kinda of looks like a stock application from Mikuni, like a stock delorto as apposed to a 19mm delorto. I am not saying that is a bad carb to run I just know the VM20's and the TM24's run awesome. Either way you should gain something. More fuel&air is always a good thing. haha

Re: 21mm Mikuni

jewish

i want one of them setups how much was it?

can u post a pic of the manafold only.the carbs in the way.i cant see.

Re: 21mm Mikuni

I don't have a pic of just the manifold. I put the setup on so quickly I never got a chance to take a pic of the manifold by itself. Either way here are the best pics I have of it. And pricing I will leave to JCAMS to talk to you about. I don't know if he charges different prices for different applications, but my setup came with everything I needed to just put it on.

This is the other side.

Re: 21mm Mikuni

YESSSS cheap carbs.

I snagged one of those PHBG replicas from Dave's this weekend. Hasn't been delivered yet, so we'll see how it goes. Think I paid $35 shipped.

Re: 21mm Mikuni

Where do you guys get your jets for these things?

Re: 21mm Mikuni

Just about any motorcycle shop will have jets for a Mikuni; they're pretty popular. As for the 'replica' carbs, they're sort of hit or miss from what I hear.. I wouldn't be surprised if I had to tap mine to accept Dellorto jets.

Re: 21mm Mikuni

Yeah I get my jets from a local motorcycle/dirtbike shop. They have like 4 boxes of Mikuni main and idle jets. I get main jets for $2.50 each which is pretty damn cheap.

Re: 21mm Mikuni

Jewish, I'm in awe about your Tomos, btw.. That thing is tits.

Probably should put that in your post, but whatev.

Re: 21mm Mikuni

whats the deal with the tubing coming out of the bottom

Re: 21mm Mikuni

From what I understand those are just vent tubes. I will find some literature on what their function actually is. But from what my friends dad says(he's been racing two strokes since the 70's and has mikuni main jets from the 70's so I know he knows more than 90% of the people here) they are just vent tubes. And thanks nvtrzan I love my ped.

Re: 21mm Mikuni

whats the final verdict on this carb? i'm thinking about grabbing one. been debating but for the price, and it looks like the intake will fit on my garelli.

Re: 21mm Mikuni

I was running a 20mm Mik on my Extreme Urban Express w/ 70cc kit and 4-petal reed setup. Mine is the smaller body but they have a large body too. I also have a 24mm and 26mm that use the large body. The 24mm is on there now and I just got done jetting it in. Ebay'd several years ago from old dirt bike stuff for cheap and I cleaned them up. Sometimes they came with reeds and or throttles/cables! I have about 4 different types of reed blocks laying around.

Jets are easy to find but I'm paying $4 each for jets at the local shops in SoCal.

I'm running a 155 MJ and 25 LS with needle in position #4 (second lowest clip point) I really need a 22.5 LS but they didn't have one and I'll have to order it.

Re: 21mm Mikuni

yeah so can anybody help me figure out which model this thing is? the ebay site says its a 21mm, but if it is part of the vm series it doesnt look like they have a 21, its goes from vm20 to a vm22.

so i think its a 22mm and it is a vm22 but i have no earthly idea i keep getting so many mixed results and not enough detail so yeah

any help is greatly appreciated

heres the ebay listing again, this is what i have <url>http://cgi.ebay.com/MIKUNI-21mm-CARBURATOR-MINI-BIKE-PIT-BIKE-SDG-CRF50-XR5_W0QQitemZ330298822283QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item330298822283&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116
