Has anybody ever successfully installed a dirtbike engine on a moped? For example, I want to put a 110cc dirtbike engine on my tomos targa lx moped. Do you think this can be done?

Anything can be done, you will need a welder and a measuring tape.
Sure, it can be done.
Mind you, if you're asking yourself "Can this be done?" you're actually asking yourself "Can I do this?". If you're already hesitant about your skills, don't attempt this with a 110cc dirtbike engine but start doing things like this with smaller, less powerful engines.
You need some strong welds, good reinforcements etc. for this to work. A moped frame isn't made to handle the abuse a dirt-bike engine will give it.
I agree. You can make anything you want. With a welder, fabrication & machining skills. If you have access to the tools.
It may take some time and, it my not work right the first time.
There's only one way to learn. By trying. But a moped would need to be beefed up. Especially if you plan on riding it off-road.
Also the power of that engine may very well rip the sprocket right off of a moped wheel and it no longer will be a moped cause it wont pedal start it will be a tiny motorcycle so you will need to plate it and all that stuff as such.
can i ask why?
mopeds dont have very good brakes
a tomos streetmate would be the best frame for that. disc brakes/hydrolic forks
why not just buy a motorcycle? it would be cheaper and way faster.
and at the end you would still have your moped this was
a little search and here are the results!

the first 1 i believe is 125cc's
I met a guy this weekend that is putting a 80cc dirtbike motor on a batavus.
Those 125cc four strokes only produce as much power a tuned 75cc kit. So its nothing crazy.
just put a yz125 engine on it. those chinese honda clone engines are weeeaaaakkk
i would like to see a ktm mini bike motor hybreed moped
i got a 125 suzuki water cooled, reed valve, 2 stroke '79 KTM.
wonder if i should try and strap it to my streetmate?
nah its a vertical engine it will be way too hard.
`SABAT!
my 125 motomarina ^^ for a project bike that will go way past 85, will shit on a lot for just a chinese 4 stroke. Its a fucking monster
because he wants to do it himself. he wants to be a part of it.
ya need one of those old bultaco engines... way cooler than some ugly ass 110cc honda clone, and sounds way cooler.
or this.. heard you can go up to about 125cc. I have a stock bore minarelli racing kit for the black safari, it has a 28mm exhaust port, and a 25mm intake.. good for about 18K rpm and 15hp
also have a gila 55cc kit, and a minarelli 47mm kit with reed valve intake for it
yes the bike is variated and has pedals
You should see the crazy shit my friend Jamie is building...
Batavus top tank moped - notoriously slow but rad looking.
Chopped, and lowered seat...
Yamaha PW80 engine (3 speed manual - clutchless)
Tomos spoke rims
It is coming out amazing... he's nearly done.
When it's done I'll post pics and more info about the fastest batavus around...
where can i buy the 75cc kit? I just want my moped to go about 50mph, an than ill be good.
75cc for what motor?
fred
Way ahead of you coco...
Jon,
There's this thing called an Alukit...at a place known as Treats :)
The good thing about a dirt bike engine in a ped frame is you get e real transmission (5spd w/ clutch for wheelies).
I put a moped motor on a dirt bike. I always do shit backwards for some reason.
see now that makes more sense to me
salty thats not backwards in my book because you gain suspension/brakes and its still a moped if you have peddles
why not just sell the tomos and buy a motorcycle
those minarelli P-4's are fucking cool as hell.

i've gotta see that some time salty! maybe june or september??? ;)
i've been lookin at doing some motor swappin & custom choppin. do a search for "LIFAN 125cc" in google shopping, you'll get some hits, it's a cheap chinese engine, but it looks like it would be good for a project. 4speed air cooled. i just wonder how hard it would be to setup / turn over with pedals.....
