Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors?

Hello - I've ordered a sito plus pipe from zipy mopeds and called cosmo about kinetc TFR upgrades. The sales men was pushing a machined carburetor and larger air box that he says gives you better performance. Has anyone bought this upgrade before who can tell me if its any good? Seems expensive at 89.95 for the carb and 30 for the larger airbox.

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

Sounds like an extreme rip-off to me...

search the threads on performance and general discussion...

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

Cosmotors seems to have high prices to me. But they know what they are doing. For Sure. You just need a 13/13 SHA you can find one cheaper than 90$. http://www.dellortodirect.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=187&zenid=2fo8it9d2rsp5a3qqdk24qam10

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

you can get a 13.13 and high flow filter for about five bucks less with tax. do some searches about kinetic and tfr and you will soon find that they are copies of vespa mopeds, at least the driveline is, and all vespa parts fit, though some pipes have complications with the pegs, so tuning them is pretty much the same. anyway read up on vespa tuning and you'll get the idea. also give the wiki performance tuning and vespa/kinetic sections a look through first if you havent.

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

The cable connection is a bit different on the vespa carbs, correct? Is it dificult to change?

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

Andrew,

You can buy the 90 bend style SHA. And take the top with the cable connection off of your stock carb. And remove the different one off your new 13/13, The stock carb top will fit perfecto on the new carb.

At least it fit on the one I had. No problem.

Or I think Zippymopedparts.com sells the stock style.

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

Thanks for the help -- I'm putting a sito plus pipe on first this week. What jet might you recommend if i got the dellorto 13/13? Also, I should change out the airbox for something bigger if I change the carb?

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

the cable connections/carb tops are easily inter-changeable. the kinetic one is cool cause you can disconnect it w/o taking the top of the carb off. ur gonna need a smaller jet than the 66 that will come with the 13, get a handfull in the 50s to play with. the stock airbox should still be fine at this point, theres another thread talkinga bout vespa air boxes check that out.

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

oh yeah, if you feel up to it, you can save yourself the money on the carb:

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

Thanks - I currently have a 50 jet right now. How do you know what the best one is? I dont want a seize due to overheat...

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

umm, read up on jetting, you start high and downjet untill it stops four-stroking.

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

The new pipe is in and went on really easy. I'd say the bike is a few MPH faster and from 25 mph to top speed has noticeably faster acceleration. Thanks for the help - the next project is the bigger carb.

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

yeah, i got a flier at the shop of cosmotor's upgrade kits today, pretty much a rip off.

the "bigger air filter" they sell looks to me like the stock one with the corner clipped off and a plastic box thing screwed to or something. if i had a scanner, i'd scan it in for you.

i would go with a dellorto 13/13, and a malossi filter. waaay cheaper, probably way better performance. and, since it's not coming from cosmo, it's not junk.

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

Question for you - I'm not the first owner of this bike. How can I tell what size carb is on it now?

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

the stock intake on the kinetic is not 13mm. just putting on a 13/13 wont do shit. you need to drill out the intake and port the intake inside of the case. (and you can just drill out your carb) look on the wiki, theres a how to.

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

stock carb should be a dellorto sha 12.10 copy, the numbers should be stamped in to the side of the carb body. the intake is like 11mm so it could use a slightly bigger carb, but it won't make that much difference. if you don't plan on splitting the case, or drilling the carb, id try to find a used 12.12 off a vespa in the buy/sell before blowing money on a 13.13.

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

If I can't put much bigger a carb on it and I've put a slightly better (sito plus) pipe on it what else can I do? I know I can buy 65cc kits but is it worth it on a kinetic?

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

Adding to my "what else can I do for more performance" -- I have the stick carb with a 50 jet -- is this the best size?

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

if you up jet to like 55 + or - you should get more out of your new pipe. But that Sito is only gonna get you up to like 30 mph w/a 13/13 and high flow air box. I put that same set up on a TFR I sold for some extra $$. And it would fit 15 on a downhill.

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

b carful. ther r sevral delorto 12 size carbs. 12/9 an i think 12/12. if you has 13./13 you should be ok. old polini pipe if you can find, will be fast for you ol clunkar bike.

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

wow I am retarded! I meant to write "it would hit 35 on a downhill".

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

Treats has a hi flow filter for those for sale, I also have an extry one I could sell you if you want it. Its black with vents and a foam element instead of a stiffling metal screen and a plastic box with a few holes in it.

Re: Kinetic TFR performance carb from cosom motors

I have a 2006 Kinetic TFR USA. It has 33 miles on it, but has no power. It bogs going up hills, not even big ones. On the flats its ok. Top speed is 25. I read these threads, but still not sure what to do. Is it the carb thats the main culprit?
