yt60-qt50

I just bought a used yt60 motor from ebay-$50.When recieving the package some of the fins had been broken off .welli have several qt50 heads and one that id nicely milled out.I was wondering if anyone knew if i could use the qt head on the yt conversion. They look similar. Also anyotheradvise of stuff i could use off the rest of this motor would help also thanks.

Re: yt60-qt50

i think most people use the qt head as it has more compression. i would run it with both and see which one does the best.

Re: yt60-qt50

the qt 50 head works but the piston hits pretty hard. Two of my friends have that mod one got tired of hearing the hit and sent his head into to get re-domed i think he said.? and the other one doesnt mind the knock so he just rides it and for some reason there is no weird sign in the motor where it hits i just tore the top end off of his to see what is actually happening and everything looked good

Re: yt60-qt50

yeah dude, youll hit the top of the piston on the intake side of the head. the reason is because of the 60 piston dome is out wider than the 50 piston, so it will hit, not alot but it will make a rattling noise. its true the 50 head makes more compression as its dome is more shallow than the yt head but the squish is all wrong and i sent mine out to be rechambered so it will run better and still have higher compression than the yt head. i strongly suggest sending it out or buying a yt head.

Re: yt60-qt50

That never happened to me. try running an extra head gasket if you run in to that problem. I liked the qt head way better than the yt the torque difference is almost night and day.

Re: yt60-qt50

you can run two head gaskets but the squish is still off, the gas wont be shot down on the rings just on the top of the pislton which will make it run good but not the best, send it out to a two stroke guy and have him rechamber it for ultimate performance.

Re: yt60-qt50

Sounds expensive, couldn't you just mill the yt head?

Re: yt60-qt50

Thanks for all the advice i have a qt head which a friend of mine milled it out really nice so hey well give it a try.I have towny motors also about 5 qt bottom ends so alot of options.A friend of mine also claims he used the pw80 top end on his towny motor with a few mods so he keeps askin why sweat the yt60 top end...Does anyone know anything about this.He lives a few 100 miles from me or id just go check it out.

Re: yt60-qt50

Well, I know pw50 gears and after market pipes are an option, so obviously the pw series shares some similarities with the QT, but I have no idea about pw80, how much it has in common with the pw50 or the qt50. If thats a fact though, then all of a sudden there is an 80cc kit for the qt, if you ass u me that the stroke is the same.

Re: yt60-qt50

I've never had problems with the stock head. Use more base gaskets, not head gaskets, and get the right clearance.

I think I am going to take the gamble soon and try an 80cc QT conversion. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Re: yt60-qt50

So you gonna try the pw80 topend on the qt....Definatly let us know how that turns out

Re: yt60-qt50

qt50 bore and stroke 40.0mm x 39.2mm

pw80 bore and stroke 47.0 x 45.8 mm

you cannot do this mod unless you figrue out someway mto put that crank out of a pw80 in a qt50 case which i dont know if they are the same and i beleive the head bolt patter is way different. i dont think this works or else wed have qt80's running around already and not qt60's just my 2 cents though

Re: yt60-qt50

Thats what i was thinkin.....Someone would of done it already. Thanks for your input however.

Re: yt60-qt50

porting might be able to make up for that, it is a reed-valve engine so it might not matter that the stroke is longer, as long as the piston deck height is the same.

Re: yt60-qt50

someone should try this wouldnt it be awesome if somehow we could get this to work??????Hmmmmm
