za50: a35 alukit build question.

I want to put a Tomos Alukit (maybe Airsol but treats is out at the moment) 70cc kit on my za50! Thing is, if I do get the Alukit, I need reeds. Treats is out of everything except the Polini 19-21mm reed block which is not designed for the Tomos. I have heard of people using them but what must be done to make them fit? Is it just a clearance issue? If so I wouldn't have that problem on my Newport. Another thing is I don't plan on running a carb that big for awhile. It will get a bored out (15.5) Bing. So I will need to make my own manifold anyway, along with modifying my exhaust. Also if by the time I am ready to plunk down the cash if the Airsol is available it says it comes with reeds but is it the whole reed block or just replacement reeds. I have searched endlessly for answers but to no avail so I humbly ask for guidance from the guru's.

Re: za50: a35 alukit build question.

As far as I remember Airsal came with a reed block and gaskets, Kstar only came with gaskets (not 100% on that). You will need an intake though and Im not sure what kind of clearance the A35 intake would give you on your motor. Most of those carbs cant be mounted at a big angle with a vertical and it may be a problem. Treats has an a35 intake for sale, though you might have to make a custom one. As far as reeds go, order the boyesen reed valves. If treats is out of them you can get them from boyesen directly (30$)

Re: za50: a35 alukit build question.

I have been staring at my ped now for awhile and came to the conclusion that a custom manifold will have to be made not just for clearance but to fit the Bing on without all kinds of funny couplings. So I will set the carb to be level no matter what. It looks like its the Polini for me so long as I don't need a spacer or the mounting holes don't line up. I would like to start with a stock a35 reed block though. I realize that I would have to make a second custom manifold when I change to a pyramid style reed block. If the Airsol does indeed come with a reed block and not just reeds that would be nice since I wouldn't have to worry about that for awhile. I will be limited by the carb ,me thinks, and not the reeds. Those can come later with the bigger carb. Though I hate purchasing essentially the same part twice. The boyesen's are nice but I will use whatever comes in the reed block I get until she is up and running and I get the itch for MOAR. I really wanted the malossi (I know it fits and its 15mm-16mm) but that is out too. I know I am not confined to Treats but I am getting other things from him and would rather make it all in one shipment. I may see if I can't just snag a stock reed block off of someone from the Buy/Sell. Ok I am done rambling/scheming.

Re: za50: a35 alukit build question.

if you're going with the polini it comes with an intake/ reeds that will work fine with a 15mm bing except on a 2 speed you need a little spacer that treats or 77 probably sells.

Airsal is not a reed valve kit, maybe your thinking of the athena kit which i believe comes with everything, some even come with a carb

a35 alukit comes with no reeds or intake. the only part you'd have to fabricate on the mallossi or polini pyramid is the very top peice with the intake stub on it.

Re: za50: a35 alukit build question.

If you go by way of reeds and need an intake manifold fabricated..Jcams could fabricate something up for you..just give him some specs and clearances to work from..thats if you useing the a35 cylinder fitment.

Re: za50: a35 alukit build question.

^^oops, thought you were referring to the puch airsal kit, the a35 airsal kit is reedvalve.

Re: za50: a35 alukit build question.

Thanks for the reference. However I will mock one up out of steel and weld it all together. Once everything is running I may make something a little fancier. I worked part time for a machinist and either I can use his shop if I have time or he will make it for a deep deep discount. My only qualm is I don't really want the Polini, I would rather have the Malossi or stick with the stock Tomos for now. I might just try and get one used.
