motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

So I got a doppler pulley and a bidalot with medium weights, the bike was running good and the pully seemed to be hitting at the proper rpm. I rode around about 15 miles with normal stop and go for city driving and then i took off from a light and my pulley just spun. I pulled it off and the 3 bolts that the clutch attaches to the pulley with have snapped. I took the bike home and cracked open the pulley and the bolts seem to be a doppler specific bolt that holds the 3 shoe centrifugal clutch in place with a circlip. has anyone had this happen? what was the remedy?

Thanks

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

those things like to come loose, before running the pulley pull off the nuts for each post and put lock washers on and torque down to a good 8 ft lbs or so might even consider lock tight. If the posts are sheared then you might have tough time finding them. RCV-team sells some rebuilds parts, you might also start looking around at scooter clutch systems they are pretty much the same design. Some online hardware kinda place might have something as well, mc-master carr etc.

thats the kind of shit that was happening to me all the time with my clutch pulley.

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

thanks peter but I still need to have mine fixed. I took it to the scooter shop and the posts are almost identical to Vespa break posts. I am having some beefy m8s made for me and that should do the trick. Its not a big deal when tunning a race bike one has to expect this kind of a set back, If I would have properly torched the m6 on the rear of the pulley and added some lock tight, this may not have happened. The parts are proven to be a good design so you have to take responsibility for your mistakes as a tunner. If it "keeps happening" then you are doing something wrong. What did you end up doing to solve the problem.

ha. i sold it

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

i saw the "work" you did on it too. woof.

hey, after trying to keep that thing alive for a few months, i gave up on keeping it "pretty" and focus on keeping it functional.

i managed to keep that thing in working order until the day it left my house, but damn, that thing did everything it could do self detonate

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

turn on a lathe!!!! will not be too hard. just take a community college course if you do not have access to one!

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

I dont have time I need the pulley to be working at the latebirds ralley. I guess I am just going to have to drop the cash at the machine shop. :( Unless my boy naz hooks it up!

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

there is bad batch of "doppler" clutch pulleys floating about. shitty man.

I have still yet to see someone else with the same model as the one i have, I think its the highest quality of the ones i've run across.

also another option would be putting in thinner bolts with metal piping sleeves around them.

or getting solid steel rod that's the correct width then drilling and tapping the bottoms and installing some threaded rod.

the circlip grooves could easily be dremeled in by hand on either solution

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

mine has plenty of miles without any sign of failure.

I would test run that setup a while first before painting. I am afraid the petcock may not flow well enough to feed that carb.

motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

I read this post after replying to another and it ended up posting here, weird?

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

elliot i think yours and mine are the oldest of the ones floating around maybe?

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

Yeah I have haven't done much with mine, I just replaced the one-way bearing since it was starting to get loose after some wear and tear and wasn't happy with how the posts where affixed so I just did couple things before even starting to use it. I really haven't had much of any issues at this point and it seems to be pretty well built. I just should have built one from scratch since it's such a simple design, oh well save that for a later date I'm going to try and whip out 3 posts tomorrow to mail off.

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

I've had mine for over a year now. No problems.

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

Ive been meaning to tell you to get fucked over that pully clutch for a long time motobrokane, It was destroyed when i got it and it blew to pieces when i put it on my bike....less than a block.

You ripped me off good, 2 broken studs , all three stud holes striped out, the bell was mounted crocked and it more or less destroyed the clutch pads, and rounded / wonked out the bells mounting hole. oh and not to mention the giant standard nut you put on it cross threaded and held on with jb weld. The bell was so bad I had to weld in new steel and grind it back into shape, on the pully i had to drill out the pin holes and make all new custom hard ware. But the best part was wire wheeling off about a whole tube of JB weld from the threads.

Don't work on mopeds any more. You suck.

dude, dont act like i didnt try to talk to you about it. you avoided my calls for almost a month before i gave up. i left you a thousand messages. i even tried talking to your fellow gang members on MA chat, begging them to relay messages to you. i told you on the phone it was falling apart. the last time i talked to you i told you it was in bad shape, and took 80 bucks off because off because of it.

i tried calling you EVERYDAY 2 or 3 times to discuss what you wanted to do. i was MORE than happy to refund you if you werent happy. i only wanted to do right by you, but you refused to answer.

if you go back and read some of my posts about it, youll see that that thing had problems since i got it.

yes, those studs were ALWAYS stripped. it didnt even come with nuts on it. yes, the bell was a hair off. always was. the main nut stipped off completely. even the second one i got by miracle, STRIPPED OFF within a few days. the god damn one way bearing went out 3 TIMES! 3 FUCKING TIMES! those bearings arent cheap or easy to find! even the fucking pedal shaft had BOTH notches on the SAME SIDE. NO ONE else said thiers came like that. ever since i bought it i thought it was a factory defect, or a shit quality knock off.

and its not like a god damn clutch pully is hard to install. theres only 1 way to put it on, so dont tell me it broke because of improper installation. it was a piece of shit when i got it, i hated it, and i was UPFRONT about that when we talked about a deal

i used bolts with washers in place of the studs because the studs wouldnt stay in place, and the bolts did, and served the same purpose.

but even with all that, it still worked fine.

the the last day of gender bender came around. i hadnt got to ride ONCE due to detonation. i stayed up ALL NIGHT rebuilding my motor. fixing the cylinder walls, fixing the damaged piston benji gave me (for free) and once i finally got the fucker together and running right, that god damn main nut stripped off again.

i dont remember the exact size of it, but it was impossible to find in the city. david at first kick had to dig through a junk box for like 40 mins to find THAT one. i knew i wasnt going to find another one. in desperation, i jb welded it on.

man, i didnt have any machinary or access to it in SF. hell i got evicted just for HAVING a MOPED in the garage.

but the bottom line is, i knew it was in bad shape, i TOLD you it was in bad shape, i even called you when it was in WORSE shape and i cut the price in HALF, AND tried to follow up with you to ensure you could walk away from the deal with a smile.

you refused to talk about it.

you refused to be satisfied.

I gave you a thousand opportunities to be happy about it.

i think i did about all i could do as a seller to make you happy. maybe if you hadnt acted like that, you would have walked away with a free C.P.

now, as im a reasonable person, im STILL willing to work with you about it. but dont come up in here screaming that noise, you dont know what i went through with that fucking thing. i had to work with it EVERYDAY to keep it functional

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

this is typical with you though josh, not just a one time thing.

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

Well attempt one look like well .. just poorly done and attempt to came out nice and I can send them off tomorrow.

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

uh.. yeah attempt two!

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

💀Kim Jong illest💀 /

what exactly is it thats typical peter? since youve never met me and know SOOOO much about "typical" josh.

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

did i mention NAZ = DA SHIT!!! you fucking rock bro. Do you need me to bring any parts to LA? I have lots of moby stuff.

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

oh ya take the drama to to another post pussys, Nate what exactly did you do about the posts?

Re: motobecane doppler pulley got jacked

I had to drill out the holes in the shoes and the pully to accept bigger hardware, then i used grade 8 bolts, a brass tube with hardened washers on each side to alow the shoes to swing out, and and locking nuts with washer on the back side of the pully to hold it all down.

as for the main nut that CAN NOT BE FOUND ANY WARE IN SF CA, It is the same size as most forks head stem nut. after wire wheeling off the jb weld from the threads it whent right on with out a hitch.

then a bit of welding and grinding on the clutch bell, aswell as re surfacing the pads. Ive ridden thousands of miles on mine with out another problem.
