stock engine question :bolt ons

ok, so heres a few things. im not 100 on kitting the ped just yet, so i was wanting to know a few things:

will the boysen reeds help and need a rejet

what will the high comp head from treats do (it said for 50cc kit, mines no kit) on the engine, again, rejetting?

my engine is stock, has biturbo and a filter from treats will be in the next order to get rid of the stock air box.

main things i wonder is what else ill have to do to the bike to make these work, what gains ill see (if any). mostly on the head, because i can hold off and just get the 70cc party pack.

Re: stock engine question :bolt ons

Just do it and find out. your bike isn't going to explode.

Re: stock engine question :bolt ons

Dont bother with the head if you're gonna kit soon. It's not that important. Especially for a cross country trip, long hours at WOT, It's not going to really help. It will give you a little gusto off the line. Yes, you'll probably need to go up a size too.

I think you're putting too much thought into these little things. You've got a good setup, just roll with it. Kit or get off the pot.

Wait... reeds? You have a stock (piston port) cylinder, so reeds are not what you should be concerned with.

Re: stock engine question :bolt ons

thats what i was wondering max. i hear a lot of things from people, and have been told "reeds" a few times. is why i asked. so i guess its reeds+kit, not before. okie!

Re: stock engine question :bolt ons

Certain kits will give you reed options, others will not. Im not a tomos guy, but I think Alukit gives you reeds. While, say airsal does not. Most stock bikes have no reeds, you only need to worry about that if you get a kit with a reed intake.

Re: stock engine question :bolt ons

Well, technically you CAN make a stock cylinder with a reed valve engine, but...

I'd also second the advice about not getting the 50cc high comp head if you're planning on kitting it. You'd do better to save that $30 and spend it on stuff for your kit (like extra jets or something).

Re: stock engine question :bolt ons

stock tomos engines have reeds.....

Re: stock engine question :bolt ons

thats what I thought too

Re: stock engine question :bolt ons

some companies sell 50 cc cylinders and head. they are the stock displacement, but have a more radical port design
