Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

I'm picking up a gitane next week with a minarelli V1.

Anyone have any tips or insights on working on these types of motors?

the workings inside the case an how different they are from E50s etc,

Most of my knowledge is in e50s, and I have a feeling italian engines are bit different for certain.

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

YOURS STAYIN?!

yayayz!

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

i wish they were as easy as e50

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

There are a lot of internal parts. An e50 it is not. I'm about to start working on one also.

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

parts pretty easy to find or a bit more rare?

is it comparable to as many moving parts on a peugot or moby, excluding the varitor and belt an whatnot?

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

There is as much performance parts for these as a puch.

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

super rad and fast. like an E50.

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

yeah, i was checking out the 80cc polini kit, and a few of those benasar pipes, but i was wondering if you could mount puch pipes on to the cylinder?

oh and last naggy question(i did look on the wiki prior to this thread) do they make preformance cranks for these bikes, or can i interchange them with a puch preformancecrank?

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

most people dont rebuild these until they blow... i believe some came with needle bearings from the factory. they are robust and tough motors.

The 80 (or 75) polini for V1 is by far the best moped kit ever produced in terms of power, reliability, cost vs. gains, longevity and quality. they really nailed it.

puch pipes fit, no problem.

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

i find it strange they are so much cheaper than the puch polini kit, but then again more people have puchs, so i guess higher demand might be the culprit.

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

Of course they make cranks, clutches,.. and many other things for them. I have a super tune up kit for the stock clutch:) I have whatever you need for these in stock.

pics.. yada..Ed

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

Its harder to split and got more internal parts but after you've done once its not really tougher than an e50. Do make a note of where the shims are and don't forget to put the washer under the output shaft bearing before you insert it.

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

Ed, I may be hitting you up shortly on parts.

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

If I don't have it .. I know where to get it. No problem Sue :)

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

likewise ed, we'll be good friends in no time :)

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

There easy, To rebuild.. just have to get goood tool selection. Open them on clean cardborad.. wth .. I am giving my tips outs.. :)

Mike, No cdi on that beast?

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

how the fuck do you get the clutch off these things? no tapped holes, nowhere to get a puller on it, no threads for a screw-on puller?

i think they are annoying to work on, but also super duper bulletproof. They also are akin to carrying around an anchor on the bottom of your bike, weight wise. i also dont like the rubber mounting. The short deck height gives a lot of porting oppertunities, you almost dont have to case match because the transfer ports barely go into the case.

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

pics of transfer ports in case plz?

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

The puller bolts goe through the outer untapped holes, the back plate is tapped. It pulls just like a puch clutch only the holes are slightly further apart.

And its not that heavy.

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

Gram, Its fun... when you can't them off the crankshaft..

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

I always... get the puller up there.. and get it to have some tension, then ... heat with map gas .. in a circle the... clutch and crankshaft.. about that time it goes POP... !

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

Have fun !...

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

reeeeallly... i couldn't see in the holes deep enough. i have a puller that will totally work for this, its just a plate with two slots in either side. maybe i'll build this engine after all.

ed, can you get a roller bearing con-rod for these engines, or should i just go about buying a different crank?

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

I have some stuff.

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

have any of you run those minarelli benasar pipes yet?

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

You're funny dude. Remember that one time (like a week or so ago) when we traded the pipe on your Puch for the pipe on my Minarelli and then traded back?

I'm really glad you are getting another ped.

Re: Whats it like to work on V1 Motors?

The hardest part about working on a V1 engine is identifying all the shims as to where they go. They are of varying thickness and need to go back exactly where they came from.

When you split the case be very careful as the shims tend to stick to any boss that they are next to. Then later when you are cleaning the case a shim will fall out and you will say to yourself, "Where the F*** did that come from".

If you can, as you find the shims, measure the thickness and save them individually with a note about where it goes and how thick it is.

The V1 engines are bullet proof once you get it back together.
