help with getting my estoril to not air leak.

i don't know what happened, but on my e50 I cant put my estoril back on without it airleaking. I tried grinding various points for more clearance. I am using a brand new gasket. still nasty airleak coming right out of the back of the exhaust port. it is on a polini, does that matter? I'm just looking for some tips. ok thanks.

help with getting my estoril to not air leak.

is this a new estroil??? could be the flange is not level.. i sanded mine to get it level. also i started using car header gaskets, cause one of those is as thick as four or five gaskets combined.. i just make a templet and cut.. haven't had a leak since, also make sure you oil it up well first too (the gasket)..

Re: help with getting my estoril to not air leak.

Use a second gasket, estorils never quite line up like they should.

Re: help with getting my estoril to not air leak.

Yep. I would check for high spots on the mating surface and then grind them down flat. Then do the gasket + some RTV and call it a day...

Re: help with getting my estoril to not air leak.

Make sure you attach the header first and leave the rear mounting bracket alone. Once its on and secure then look at the difference between your frame mount and your pipe mount. I suspect your pipe's header is being forced out of proper mating with the case by the distance of the rear mount. Just something to think about. I have two of these pipes and they never seem to just line up. It could be it.

Re: help with getting my estoril to not air leak.

Another good point. Always essential.

Re: help with getting my estoril to not air leak.

Also you can take a broad large file and carefully file the flange face of the header flat.

Re: help with getting my estoril to not air leak.

all good points. mike i did do what you suggested, and even filed my mount on the bottom so the pipe could have more clearance, and even tried starting without it mounted to no avail. i'll look for uneven or high parts on the head of the pipe. estorils are kind of a pain in the ass huh?

Re: help with getting my estoril to not air leak.

that they can be... i forgot to say when i sanded it (pipe flange) i used a piece of sandpaper on top of a thick mirror to make sure it was a flat surface... i used the figure eight method..

Re: help with getting my estoril to not air leak.

My estoril had a crack in the pipe where it mounts to the flange that was kind of hard to see. Had to reweld.

Re: help with getting my estoril to not air leak.

i tried the double gasket, no go. there are no cracks salty, i can see the leak by way of burn spots on both sides of the gasket. i tried using double gaskets, and that didn't work. I examined it and it definitely just needs milled down flat at a proper angle. I'm positive this will be the solution.
