Moped Racing: Posters For Sale!

So... I'm not a fine artist or an illustrator; I'm just retarded for moped racing. So I decided to do a Moped Racing poster to:

A. Hype our shit, as nobody is going to do it for us.

B. Raise some dollars, to fuel my Team HRY racer.

All proceeds will go directly into getting fast bikes on the track, and making moped racing awesome. -And that is a guarantee, my friends. I took inspiration from old 1930's Gran Prix posters, which are deStijl and abstract and rad.

So here it is:

The posters are currently 11x17 (13x19 happening maybe someday) high-quality digital print on ivory medium cardstock for extra vintage flavor. Each one is numbered and initialed by "the artist". Things might be glitchy at first, as I'm still working the bugs out of Etsy / auto-shipping and I don't know how many to order(?) Supplies are very limited right now, but if demand requires, there will be more for sure. I'd like to get $14 + s/h per poster

If you want some, you can either hit my Etsy store break>

-or you can paypal me straight up: Diabolicalplan@yahoo.com -please indicate 'Poster' in the notes along with applicable shipping information. All posters (in U.S.) ship priority mail in a USPS poster tube ($4.50) Total=$18.50

And Thanks For Looking!!

ciao, and motobecane, right?

Re: Moped Racing: Posters For Sale!

Thanks Brennan-

But actually.. I think I should've just kept this post on buy/sell, as sweeet moped racing posters don't actually make your bike faster, just make your work area look cooler.

My Bad.

really very cool. They look a bit photoshop though. I know it's difficult to replicate that older style of watercolor / gouache painting in photoshop but you're almost there. You should add just a bit of grain overall to give your flat colors just a bit of texture. It could also be cool to make the text french, or german to give it more of the feel of the European posters, you should probably switch up your fonts and adjust your drop shadows. Also these posters were made at a time before air-brushing so you don't see the kind of gradients in the older posters that you have on yours. Sorry for the critique but I think that your design is really cool and thought you might appreciate some constructive advice (I used to intern at an ad agency that specialized in movie posters).

You mentioned that you're doing this to fund your racing. If you're participating in the Polini cup you should try to get into contact with the people at Polini who are running the show. Maybe you could convince them to let you create a new poster for each race. They could absorb the printing costs. You'd be able to sell a lot more of them if they were the actual event poster for the race. Just some thoughts. Keep em coming.

=D

Re: Moped Racing: Posters For Sale!

Very nice work!

I agree with echopuch, but I don't see any need to change your poster.

Amtrak has been royally f&*%ing up it's business (failing to rent track, letting its cars rot, raising it's prices), but it recently put out an amazing run of posters.

They did their gradients a little differently, but otherwise have the same old-style-with-modern-design-tools feel:

Definitely make the rounds and see if you can get one of the sponsors to underwrite a mass printing.

Re: Moped Racing: Posters For Sale!

Hmm. Bad example.

See if you can find the "Keystone" poster - it's more period-correct.

The Boston-NY-DC versions don't use any shading - they're more like art deco directed by Genndy Tartakovsky

I've seen these posters in person. Super rad limited collectible!

Re: Moped Racing: Posters For Sale!

man, those are awesome. I was wanting to have similar posters made, but I can no make art, and all the artists I talked to are lazy sacks of shit. You'd think offering people money to do the things they allegedly enjoy doing would get them to do them.

no way man, that would make them mercenaries. art is about like expressing your inner soul not making beautiful things for filthy lucre you philistine

Re: Moped Racing: Posters For Sale!

There are definitely way better artists than me in the moped community. If we had to wait for only the most talented people to do stuff, nothing would get done though.

Re: Moped Racing: Posters For Sale!

I like paying this one for art. She good. http://epikness.webs.com/

Re: Moped Racing: Posters For Sale!

was this of any inspration?

Re: Moped Racing: Posters For Sale!

Actually, Noah is totally my favorite illustrator. We've been friends for a long time, but I haven't hung out with him since he, and ethan and justin all moved from cincinnati to the west coast. Maybe I should get him to do the moped racing posters and I should stick to working on bikes...

Re: Moped Racing: Posters For Sale!

yes, noah, is the best, for comic book stylie. He lives in Oakland, CA now, btw. and THAT is a picture of Puddle Cutter Taylor.

Re: Moped Racing: Posters For Sale!

some (constructive) art criticism:

I like the concept but there are some things i think will improve it a lot. one is move the rider in the foreground more to the left. with him smack dab in the middle it looks unbalanced. secondly, lose most of the gradients. i think if it were more hard-edged/vectorized it would look a lot more like a vintage poster. just some tips, not trying to come across as a snob.

good job though, we need more moped art. good luck getting your bike going and on race day!
