I took my Techno Estoril apart to sandblast it and paint it because it got trashed last season. When I took it apart all the fiberglass stuff was crumbly and black and fell apart. What can I replace this stuff with? I know I have read a thread about this before, but couldn't find anything when I searched so sorry for the easy/dumb question if this comes up a lot. Any disadvantage of not putting anything back in there other then the deafening noise? Thanks!
just get scraps of fiberglass house insulation
its just fuiber glass packing. you can buy real stuff too. but i just get scraps wrap it around and stuff the silencer backon

i got some packing from my local dirt bike store for like twelve bucks.
I took mine out willingly..I kind of like the sound..it's more like a hum when I have my helmet on.......
so it wouldn't hurt it to not have anything in there? Just curious.
Just think of it as a stock muffler for a car and a performance muffler..before and after..suttle noise to louder noise..I don't think it matters if it's in there or not..

ive seen over packed ones increase back pressure.
steel wool works pretty good, and lasts a while.

Craig don't put steel wool in your pipe. You are too good for that. Steel wool lasts a minute, until you loose spark for a second, backfire and shoot flames out your exhaust, b/c steel wool is combustable and will smolder for a bit. I had socks in my bio-turbo for about a week. When they came out they had holes in them and were kinda gnarly. They did quiet the pipe way down, though.
You don't _need_ anything in there but that fiberglass stuff that 77 sells will work wonderfully.
haha i didnt realize it could burn, i guess it depends on what grit stuff you buy, well maybe id at least get the thicker less fine steel wool.

any benefits to leaving the packing out, or in my case taking it out on purpose? we know a sweet hum will occur, but im taling like perfomance gains, any of that sort of that thing going to happen? ive seen some pipes out there that have huge chambers on them and then just a little nub at the end, no silencer at all...
your bike if tuned right should run much better with something in their if it is nothing in their it can fell like your pip hits 2 times at difrante rpms i know i loved the way my 65mk sounded win it was empty but i baked it just for fun an it ripped way harder

I did a little test on my techno exaust..i got my ped warmed up..rode it without then with the fiberglass in..it make a little difference on my ped in a positive..not much to say leave it in..but enough to notice a little..
Craig, when mine fell off all that crap fell out as well. I just put it back together without it and I (personally) think it sounded better and reasonably loud.
