Polini PHBG W/ stock reeds?

Does anyone make a PHBG intake to fit the Puch Polini kit w/ stock reed setup? I sure can't find one. I think the Peugeot PHGB intake might work But Id have to hack off some fins for sure, Because it mounts forward. I know I could get the upgrade PHBG reed block. But Its a brand new kit and I think Id rather break it in before I Blow it up w/a 4 reed setup. I dont see the point in paying for a SHA carb when I will just eventually upgrade and have to buy a PHGB too. And I aint running no dinky 12 Bing Blahhh. I might just make one my self. Unless there is a reason why these intakes dont exist. I could fab one up pretty quick. But , I have too many projects already.

Re: Polini PHBG W/ stock reeds?

Dallas of the Bropeds has a 16PHBG on his stock Polini intake, but the intake has been modified, naturally.

Re: Polini PHBG W/ stock reeds?

Yeah I thought of that too. That was my first idea. Drill it slightly to 16 And slap a shim in there. But I want to go 19mm And its just not possible to oversize the stock intake to 19mm. 16 sure 19 nope.

Re: Polini PHBG W/ stock reeds?

I mean the Phbg mount is 24mm vs 19 for SHA. So Id have to shim the stock intake to accept a PHBG. The max I could bore the stock intake is 16 maybe 17. So If I went any bigger than 16 W/ the carb Id just be restricting it.

Why doesn't anyone sell that sort of intake?

Re: Polini PHBG W/ stock reeds?

if you have the skillz to do all this why not just bore your stock bing out to 16 and rock that for awhile? polinii+2 petal+16bing is a great combo. 19 is quite a bit to flow on a 2 petal reed.

Re: Polini PHBG W/ stock reeds?

Yeah I guess the one thing I overlooked was going up to 16 on the bing. I already bored it out once to 1/2".

When I had it apart the first time. The biggest bit I had at my house was 1/2" & I didnt want to go to the shop. I just figure eventually I will want a larger carb and Id rather not pay for a 16mm and then pay again to upgrade. Yeh, good idea.

Re: Polini PHBG W/ stock reeds?

bore it out to 5/8" either with a drill bit very carefully or with a reamer if you can get one. should be a good setup, you might like it enough that you wont even want to go PHBG.

Re: Polini PHBG W/ stock reeds?

Looking at this Bing it seems that I already bored it to be flush with top of the jet holder 13mm. + or - So if I go any further it will either have a large decrease in size in the middle(if I just do both sides). Or I could go all the way through which doesn't seem like a wise idea. As then I would take off the top of the jet holder & the slide wouldn't sit on a flat surface there would be a large half moon shape under it . What would be the better way to go here? Sorry if I sound like a dummy but I a professional welder not bike mechanic.

But I now Im dreaming of intakes. So I guess Ill have to make one. I have allot of work left to do on this project anyway. Cleaning and painting & allot of engine work. I shouldn't even worry about all this yet. I have to finish my buddy's Newport first. Whatever, The never ending story..
