70cc k star from treats hi comp 70 cc from warbux boss pipe from treats and stock carb and air filter with an upjet to 72

at first it was running decent then i found that the exhaust had an air leak so i took it out and re bolted it on and no more air leak but now it runs pretty slow and bogs out when i have the air filter on and will do the same if i take it off and go wot for too long

whats up with that

and since im asking for help anyway

when i try to pedal start now the pedal will kind of skip gears and sound like the chains slippin or grinding and i have already tightened my chain leavin half inch slack

air leaks=lean fuel air mixture, did you compensate for the air leaks leaning out the mixture by upjeting more, if so then when you fixed the air leaks you richened the mixture back up. If you take off the filter and run it will allow more air to come back into the mixture thus leaning your mixture back out to where it should be...PLUG CHOP until you get the mixture right...now that you've fixed the air leaks.

Im not really sure about the chain problem...unless you got the wrong size chain, or one of your sprockets is missing a tooth or something.

oh and it also sounds like you may be four-stroking at the top end. Does it start to bog down when you're running at WOT? if so next time try to close the throttle a little and see if it stops...if it does then you're definatly fourstroking at the top end. Biggest this is plug chop!

thats the wierd thing tho i checked my plugs and thier turning white so that would mean i need to richen the mixture right??

and with the chain its like when you ride a 21 speed bike or one with extra gears it feels like your changing from a bigger gear to smaller gear in mid pedal or like the chain broke on you while pedaling

yeah, it can feel very similar until you know how your bike sounds.

is it a gurgling noise or a screaming "BWAAAAA" type noise?

With an airfilter is less air than without, therefore if performance has improved without it but not perfect, keep going the direction of less air. Lean out a bit. 72 does seem lean though. And so does your plug. Complicated situation. Do you have a choke that you can pull when this happens? if so pull it, If your bike performs better, richen. If it dies down, leaner.

ye well i ride everyday if my bike permits

and i knew something was wrong

its making a gurgling noise which would mean its too rich right??

but when i plug chopped it came out very light brown so that would mean if i went a size down wouldnt it sieze if i ran it that way??

also i have a b6hs plug in right now

but i think the whole stock bing and intake is my real problem im trying to get a dellorto phgb 19 mm but i have to wait till next weekend to go to choke to get it since i dont have a credit card

but im just trying to make it run decently until i can get the good stuff on my ped

and my choke is the push kind so it pushes down the slide of the carb when i push it down which shouldnt be a problem to see if my carb would actually idle but it doesnt do that either

Bike won't idle either?

The Bing choke doesn't push down the slide, it just has a stop so the slide opens the choke when it opens.

Regarding the color of your plugs, what does the electrode tip look like? The little metal bit that comes out of the porcelain under the hanging arm.

A 19mm PHGB is going to hurt your brain a lot more than an SHA ever will.

o wellthe electrode tip is brownish lil on the dark side but not wet

and i just want a carb that hs good tuning potential

this is the first type of motor ive ever worked on but i get the concept of most things

im still re-reading the two stroke tuners handbook to fully grasp everything

72 seems rich for a bing. i'm running a 74 jet in my 15mm dellorto, and thats even slightly rich.

what fuel:oil ratio are you using? If there are no air leaks

(intake, exhaust, between header and cylinder, and cylinder and case) and you're running a "normal" (debatable) gas:oil ratio then you should just be able to follow freds guide, or something of the sort and get it running decent. OR when you fixed the exhaust leak did you by chance look inside the cylinder cause you may have been running really lean with that leak and muffed up your cilinder and lost compression, but i hope not. otherwise i'm stumped, although it is 3am and i dont feel like thinking any more.
