Garelli NOI clutch tuning

Can you tune a rubber clutch.

taking metal from the starting plate or maybe from the actual rubber or the rubber mount.

anybody try this shit. do the noi kickstarts have an actual clutch? ive heard they do.

i have heard a myth of the amount of oil you put in the clutch can have an effect.

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

i am running 30 weight non-d about 13 oz as suggested by the manual.

i have three garelli kits, the polini, the malossi, and a eurocylindro that came from italy.

i want to get more out of them.

i am waiting on an 11 tooth for the front and am running tomos mags on one of my garelli's so gearing is dialed. I have a leo vinci circuit pipe and a 6p.

clutch suggestions.

i would say to first experiment with different oils. probably try something synthetic. maybe try over filing it a tad.

theres not a whole lot you can do. i don't know if its a good idea to take away from the rubber.

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

Aj, i'm in the same boat and the best i've come up with is tuning via oil. Someone suggested that to me and it seems to be the safest way. The full synthetic route will get you a little more slip but i didn't notice enough of a difference to say it's worth it.

On the same note i've been trying to find a stiffer spring to see if that helps with it slip just a little more to get those RPM's up.

i do 50 on my stock cylinder. with a 20mm carb and just a pipe.

what are you trying to get out of it??? my bike has plenty of low end.

and all i did was over fill the oil a bit with full synthetic to let the clutch slip

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

dont fuck with the clutch rubber, its a bad idea. just overfill it a little at a time until you get the slippage you want.

the kickstarts do have a shoe clutch, i have been looking for one for a while. everyone says they pop up on ebay.it all the time, but i havent had much luck finding one.

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

Oil tuning is the safe way. full syth slips a lot, like loss of maximum power, a lot, or so it's been my experience. I usually way overfill, and then drain a little at a time u ntil it engages whe I want it to. the kickstart NOI's do have shoe clutches. I've got one, but I haven't done anything with it. main problem is that you can't use your starter clutch anymore, so you'd have to rig something up, like a cordlesss drill for starting, or a pull start on the mag...

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

yeah, the malossi i built slips at full trot, it might be a little glazed though. i'm sure you've got taller gears than me too, AJ. how long do those rubbers usually last for a 50ish mph NOI?

Hi, you can get the rubber clutch in different colors, the black is the std, the red is intermediate and the white one is the most slippery.

holy shit! nice info fred.

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

whoa! awesome. i'm totally ordering a couple. what is the difference between the economic version and the massive version? also, did you see the crazy shoe clutches they have? oooh goodies for days.

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

which one do i need for my ssxl?

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

i'm trying to figure that out too, i put in a call to them. i'll let you know what they say. i am definitely getting all three though, and maybe one of those shoe clutches to fuck with.

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

They look pretty rad but how would you mount it?

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

Nevermind it just all clicked

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

:-)

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

thanks for taking initiative and contacting them davey! that would be super sick if you'd post what they say. I'm just starting to look into NOI stuff- ssxl is the next project in line so it's research time for me at this point... i was worried about the clutch before but now it's nice to see there might be more options now!

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

Actually mine's an LTD so I am not sure this applies to me anymore... as it's a 2 speed I think. Like I said, researching... haha

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

Someone get a hold of these guys. How can we get shipping. We should do a mass order if its cheaper. I want one of each.

so sick

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

They emailed me back this morning with a price list and all of the clutches are around $67 each, plus shipping.

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

Just hang there guys, I am working on getting them into the eeuu.:) be a couple weeks. I can't wait :) yahaw!

Re: Garelli NOI clutch tuning

those are really cool. but remember kids, they're for the kickstart engine. so your pedal start starter mechanism isn't going to work afterwards.
