wacky crank idea

any guru's out there know what might happen if you cut the back of the big end of your crank possibly added material, then drilled / tapped it so you could pop that baby off without balancing your crank again?

can two-strokes do this? that's really what i want to know

Re: wacky crank idea

wat

Re: wacky crank idea

like a Puch crankshaft?

what end are you cutting?

im pretty sure no. cranks are pressed, tweaked, then balanced, tweaked, balanced its in the manual man.

Re: wacky crank idea

Does it hurt when you do that because it is wrong. When you finish it hurts.

Re: wacky crank idea

you mean like a four stroke right? like this:

i'm assuming there is a reason why you cant do this on a two-stroke otherwise it would have been done but i dont know the answer, it would make things a lot easier!

Re: wacky crank idea

It would have to be forged that way to hold up against the stress.

Re: wacky crank idea

why do you say that? not all connecting rods are forged so why would that stop them from being used in a two stroke?

Re: wacky crank idea

I've seen that done in 2 strokes. Outboard motors and really old lawnboys are like that. A lot of outboard motors have the cylinder cast to the case, so it is almost a necessity if you're going to change the rings.

Re: wacky crank idea

you'd have to make a whole new con rod to get it to hold up... they are forged so if you made one out of cast or billet you'd need to make it much bigger and heavier.

Re: wacky crank idea

Plus you'd be on the losing end, having to use a split bronze bearing instead of a roller. Limiting your revs. Unless you have the major cash to find a split roller bearing, which I have only seen made for automotive applications and those were prototypes

Re: wacky crank idea

you can also do a loose roller like they do on some lawnmower engines.

why would you take the rod out anyhow?

Re: wacky crank idea

yeah, not worth the money or effort. 100 bucks for a whole new crank relatively speaking to the job you're thinking of is nothing.

Brandon P /

good feedback. it was just something that popped into my head, (like many other projects that are too complicated and hurt my brain)

Re: wacky crank idea

ha brandon when was that picture taken in your profile? ive been driving around in very similar conditions lately and my feelings on the matter closely resemble the feelings exhibited by your facial expression.

Re: wacky crank idea

why?.......
