Kitting za50s

So my winter project is almost done, but it's like February 8, so I was thinking about starting another one. A buddy of mine has a two speed puch that tops out around 35 or so . . . was thinking about buying it and putting a kit on it. I've heard people say kitted za50s don't last though . . . why not? Looks like you can get roller bearing crank shafts for them (treats), and you can definitely get the bearings and seals . . . is the shifting mechanism just inherently too weak? What are the issues to be overcome?

Thanks a lot

Re: Kitting za50s

oops, should've checked the wiki first, there's a whole section on this - sorry
