Hpi questions (puch)

Hey yall, just got my hpi in from treats, attempted to put it on and ran into some snags.

The screws that are supposed to hold the stator to the case dont fit, can i go to lowes and find screw that are correct?

also, the large wire coming out of the stator get hella squished when you push it in far enough to put the screws on, is that ok? im guessing so.

Also, on the directions, when it says put the piston 2 to 4 mm from upper most position, im guessing that means rotate the piston until it hits the end of the cylinder (head off of course) and then backing it off 2 to 4mm before installing, correct?

also, puchs are right rotating engines correct?

sorry bout all the noob questions, just trying to do this right

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

bump

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

Depends on the engine. ZA50s and E50s rotate in opposite directions.

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

e50

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

look at your old flywheel, theres an arrow on there that will tell you which way it rotated.

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

Dwoby, what are you doing with HPI? Gimme your address and I'll come over and put it on for you.

If your screws don't fit... get ones that do. Get them at Lowes or wherever a person in your area would obtain said screws.

Define "hella squished."

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

its just squished between the case and stator, i was just wondering if that was okay, im guessing it was. I got some screws so nbd on that parts

And stop trying to redbook me mang! i think this is the 3rd time youve tried with me, not ganna happen

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

Read this post. Actually the entire thread.

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

Mine didnt come with the red mountlooking plate pictures on that thread, or the smaller metal one at the bottom, do i need those?

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

bump...anyone?

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

leenewport on heatherette! on leedog /

do not squish any wire anywhere!!!!!!!!!

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

like really? or joking?

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

If you squish the wires you will probably rub the protective coating off over time.

Exposed wires are never good.

After looking at some photos there are really only two options when it come to dealing with that wire.

1. Cut a slot in the case you the wire can exit directly up out of the magneto assembly.

2. Cut the wire that comes off of the HPI unit, feed it through the hole the stock wiring goes through and then solder the wires back together (or use connectors).

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

post pics, your wires should be getting squished anywhere.

you're doing it wrong

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

. . . which of these did you do? you run HPI CDI on your bike, right?

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

Also, the 2-4mm thing is bullshit. You need to set it to 17 degrees (about), I found this to be safe and perform well. Do some research, i dont feel like going through all the steps, but basically you need a timing light, then you need to find tdc, set it to tdc, and see where it is sparking, advance it 17 degrees from that point, then check it with the timing light to make sure its 17 degrees.

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

UGH! you dont need to cut the wires or cut any holes, you can pull those three wires apart. stick them through the stock wiring hole on the motor then put it back together, but remember which wires went where and put the back right.

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

cool thanks everyone, im ganna have a hard time trying to figure this stuff out, i know nothing of timing

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

Tommy... you were able to stick the connector that is attached to the magneto assembly through the stock e50 wiring hole??? Looks a bit big to fit.

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

yeah im confused, i looked at the wires and cant see how you could pull them out without ruining something,

ANOTHER question

only 2 of the holes line up when i try to install the screws of the stator, is it ok to just use two?

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

the wire almost fits through the stock hole if you take off the rubber thing around the connector. you can also pull of the red top of the connector once the yellow rubber thing is off, then from there you can disconnect the wires, but make sure to take note of their positions before doing this.

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

and when i say stock hole, i mean the hole where all of the wires usually crawl out of an e50

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

Ok, so like chris said, remove yellow rubber, pull off red tab, pull out wires. piece of cake.

Now, so like I said, set the HPI to TDC. make a mark on the stator and the coil of where tdc is. Then run the bike, you a timing light to find where it is sparking. mark that spot. then you need to move the stator 17 degrees and then you spark should have moved 17 degrees. mark where that 17 degree mark is and then run it in the new position and see if it is sparking at the new mark. Hopefully it does and you are set. Make sure everything is tight and impacted. No woodruff key it can and will slip. Hopefully the illustration helps.

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

thanks a whole lot tommy, one question, what does TDC mean? HA!

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

Top dead center. The point where the piston is at the highest point of it's rotation.

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

thanks

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

"No woodruff key it can and will slip."

Shit, me no rikey . . . even if you torque it down?

Also, have you used the light coil? (has anyone?)

Re: Hpi questions (puch)

Tommy what are you doing wasting time riding mopeds? Go be a freakin architect, impressive draft! lol

NEW Re: Hpi volt reg wires

Where:

HPI VOLTAGE REGULATOR (little red box that connects the stator electronics to the HTC.)

What:

The one Wire I'm skeptical about is the black one with a white stripe thats got a female round wire connector on the end of it. Where does this wire go?
