How much difference do the 4 petal reeds on a puch polini make? Also, is the four petal setup more or less reliable (or the same) than the stock double reed? I want this bike to be very fast, but I also want to be able to rely on it to get me to work every now and then. Are four petals like a last step, advanced tuners only, last 3 horse power mod, or is it something that's going to really improve the overall performance of the bike?

I just hooked up mine last night, not tunned yet but first feeling is insane power boost! 20mm phbg oh my god, I almost fell off the thing, because it was geared for topend I didn't expect it to buck the way it did, before the reeds it was just pretty good with lowend, now it beats my 65 metra derbi. A+

polini 4 pedal e50 stock gearing is pretty much the standard creatures setup in SF, it can be uber fast, and super reliable, but it can also be hard to dial in perfectly (w/o seizing) if u want ultimate power from it.
imo this is the best puch top end setup. run it with a boss or proma gp pipe and have amazing power and reliability for days. go to a higher performance pipe, tune her up proper and prepare to see the majority of gila and 80metra riders eat ur dust!

follow up question: do i need to run a big carb to get the advantages of the four petal reeds? i was hoping to stick with my 15 bing for this build, for reliability's sake, but i do have a 19phbg lying around too . . . if i got the 4 petal and put the bing on it, would i get the low end benefit hippy's talking about, or would i need the big carb on there too? it was really tough to dial in the 19 to my metrakit is the thing (i soft seized twice) . . . i'm less of a moron now, so i could probably manage to tune the 19 this time, but i'm a little scared of it. the 15 bing's pretty idiocy proof tuning wise, i think.
You would get good low end and you may be happy with it but the 19mm would of course be better
the 4 petal is going to make your carb face the opposite direction and at an angle. A bing would not be fun like that. 19 PHBG or stick with your 2 petal for bing.

thanks for all the advice. i think i'm going to stick with the bing/2 petal for break in, then get the four petal and put my 19 phbg on it.
