moped shocks suck

What are others using for rear shocks instead of the shitty moped ones. I havent had much luck finding hydraulic motorcycle ones that fit. Lets see some pictures of what you have. Enterain me I am bored. Thier is snow on the ground and its -4 outside this moring.

Small off road motorcycle shocks work. You need to know measurement form eye to eye then go searching for coil over hydraulic shocks. I changed out my Tomos from 11" to 12" just to help clear tire issues, not my 180 pound lard ass!

Re: moped shocks suck

lard ass?? I am 220, Its all mussle though?! Well exept for the gut.

Re: moped shocks suck

I use motorcycle gas shocks. They are originally meant for some 500cc Royal Enfield. Pretty tough and look great.

Don't mind the shape the rest of the Puch is in, this is a pic after I crashed it. Only good pic of the shocks I have tho ;)

How do you find that pipe.

Re: moped shocks suck

If it's a proma circuit, Benji just got a bunch in...

Re: moped shocks suck

Hey SchijnHeilig, how much did those run you?

Performance wise, $ who cares, its only money!

Re: moped shocks suck

you have a maxi, right? so your rear shocks are 300mm long. google "300mm motorcycle shocks" and a whole poop load come up

Re: moped shocks suck

. . . i only chime in because, i'm looking for good ones too. i'll post when i pick a pair.

Re: moped shocks suck

The shocks were about $100.

The pipe is a Proma Circuit with a Gianelli scooter muffler on it. I like it, it's a decent allround pipe.

It's not as good as my Proma LowBoy Twin tho, but I can't use that pipe right now as the header is bent and one of the mufflers fell off.

Re: moped shocks suck

This definitely depends on budget. There are eight or ten companies that would be happy to make you shocks. Off the top of my head, I'd go for works.

IF you go the "custom" route, the prices start around $300 and go skyward from there. the prices kinda plateau around $1500.

There's a big problem finding shocks for mopeds. The bikes weight is so light, that finding shocks with the proper spring rate, and damping levels isn't easy.

The lightest bikes I can think of, that have dual shocks, are the honda monkeybikes. Any "real" motorcycle I can think of (GS250, rebel, nighthawk 250, etc..) start around 300lbs. Assuming a 50/50 weight ballance, that means the single axle weight of the bike, sans rider, is as much as a whole moped.

.... can you tell I've put some thought into this?

The spring rate is much, much more important than damping. A bike with no damping can be remarkably fast, with a smooth rider and proper spring rate.

How much of a market would there be for moped shocks? the only real sticking point is that the smallest I could see them costing is $2-300.
