a5 with puch rear wheel gearing

does anyone know how i could make a 40tooth puch rear wheel work with a tomos a5 engine? would bolting on a 16tooth za50 gear up to the a5 sprocket work as long as the chain lined up?

Re: a5 with puch rear wheel gearing

Front Sprocket: smaller for better acceleration/bigger for more top end. Rear Sprocket: Smaller for more top end, bigger for more acceleration. If you ran an A55 motor with a 40 tooth rear sprocket you would probably be able to pop wheelies, but you would top out at like 20mph. What are you trying to achieve? Top speed A55 the biggest ratio you can go is 28front, 20 rear. That will require mod of the case, and a grind on the rear wheel. Hope this helped

Re: a5 with puch rear wheel gearing

i put an a5 on a cobra frame. i'm just trying to run the 5 star mags that came with the puch. right now i have a tomos rear wheel to match the gearing which we had to make a brake mount on the opposite side. we were thinking if it was possible to make the 22 tooth tomos gear work on the bike gear side of the puch rim if we could make that side fixed, especially since i know the chain will line up and i'm already set up for the brake mounted on the opposite side. i was just asking i guess if since 16-40 is the stock ratio on a za-50 if that would work on another engine(the a5) i didn't know if that small engine sprocket would make the engine spin too fast or if it doesn't matter because the 40tooth would still be on the rear

why not just use the za50?

Re: a5 with puch rear wheel gearing

You can go as low as 32 on the puch wheel I think? Most people just install tomos wheels.

Re: a5 with puch rear wheel gearing

Don't forget the Tomos wheel and gearing is setup for a 16" vs the wheel gearing setup for the Puch 17"
