what can I do to make my moped a little less slow?

so I have a 1977 Negrini Leprotto 50cc. dellorto 14.12 carb.

everything on my ped is stock. everything.

at a red light it takes a sad time to catch up some movement.

up a hill I might as well be on a bicycle.

i dont know much about these things because I just bought it.

I dont want anything out of control just a little more speed at take off and up hills.

If you're like me and don't want to spend money on parts, you should:

-de-carbonize your muffler, cylinder head, and piston

-make sure you're jetted right (most stock bikes are a little rich, be careful about going too lean)

-change your tires (did this today and gained ~3mph)

-clean/lube your chain

-enjoy what you have until you've got the scrillah to spend on parts

cheers!

Re: what can I do to make my moped a little less s

thank you

I dont mind spending money on my moped.

I just meant that I dont want anything insane like nitrous craziness.

i just want it to take off without my help and get me up some hills a little faster.

I cleaned my muffler/tailpipe today and it was pretty clean already.

my tires a new and I replaced my plug today.

I think my timing needs to be adjusted but i have no idea how to do that. would this make it whimpy?

my jet is a 48 I think? Im looking at new air filters and a little up-jetting right now.

Re: what can I do to make my moped a little less s

What he said+

-rebuild your wheel bearings

-deck your head to up the compression

-install an expansion chamber exhaust (or derestrict your stock one)

-get a 15mm carb and intake

-inspect and check your ignition (replace the points if worn, "power is in the points")

-change your gearing

-search and read these forums like it was your job

Re: what can I do to make my moped a little less s

i would look on ebay for a new pipe. get an expansion chamber such as the tecno boss. ive never dealt with your bike so i don't know whats out there but if wost comes to wost then you can get a 2 piece biturbo and weld up your muffler header to the biturbo pipe.

you could also see if you bike has any restrictions such as airfilter or intake restrictions.

and last you could re gear.

for more acceleration you want a bigger rear sprocket or smaller front.

you could also go with a new carb. dellorto's the way to go if you want that.

def look at the wiki. it's alot of help.

just spend some time online researching what your going to do before doing it.

okay im done. sorry for the long post but thats whats you gotta do. :P

Re: what can I do to make my moped a little less s

There's always porting too, just make sure you're confident on your understanding of the engines inner workings before you venture into this aspect of tuning.

Re: what can I do to make my moped a little less s

THROW A KIT...

Re: what can I do to make my moped a little less s

my exhaust has an expansion chamber on it.

Re: what can I do to make my moped a little less s

Yeah, but that header pipe is awfully long, and more often than not the stock expansion chambers are designed to self-limit the top speed. That thing is begging to be chopped off and a new chamber welded on to the stinger.. I think treats has one up right now for like $30, check it out.

Re: what can I do to make my moped a little less s

Well, crap. Looks like the 'chamber' I was talking about is actually just a silencer. Looks like you'll have to cannibalize some pipe to get it to fit - that's the problem I'm having with mine.. Same result either way, though

Re: what can I do to make my moped a little less s

You've both got morini's, puch pipes will fit but come out the other side and need a bracket rigged up. Minarelli pipes should be fairly hassle free.

-Drill out your intake, they always have tiny intakes.

-change your trans fluid

Re: what can I do to make my moped a little less s

good advice.

thanks
