garelli ssxl

i need some opinions, i'm looking at picking this ssxl for a cafe project and was wondering about performance options for the stock motor (kit, head, exhaust, etc.). The other option is i already have a a35 built up ready to go but i'm not sure if the motor mounts match up, i haven't been able to take a good look at it yet.

What do you guys think?

Re: garelli ssxl

seems like the only kit they still make for the noi is the polini 70cc and they have a 19mm intake for it... and if you can weld you can use any pipe you want.... other than that i dont know... thats my problem right now... limited options.... anybody else wanna help us out????

a puch low to mid range pipe is the way to go, or a circuit pipe is the way to go dudes, and you really need to find a way to re-gear

Re: garelli ssxl

^true but there is no sprokets for us.... how would we do it?

mod one to fit.

Re: garelli ssxl

Z-Sprockets for the rear should work fine. Polini kit, weld a pipe, cuss the clutch.

Re: garelli ssxl

^hows the kit on the one your trying to sell? is it really that hard to tune? i think im just gonna throw an a35 on mine and say fuckit... besides for my first project a noi is kinda hard.... i should have just got a puch....

Re: garelli ssxl

im just cranky and the clutch engages too soon, and the thing hates to start with an air filter on it...

Re: garelli ssxl

well i'm giving it a shot, i picked it up today and it's cleaner than i thought (except for the gas tank). Everything is there including a spare motor and some surface rusted chrome.

Let the tear down begin

An ssxl was my first bike...and I surprisingly got it to run. I think

its a great learning experience. When I first got it I couldnt ride

around the block once without it stalling out in a cloud of white

smoke. Now the only time it hassles me is when Im out of gas.

Re: garelli ssxl

polini 65 + boss + 16.16sha = win.

fuck the clutch. tune via oil level.

Re: garelli ssxl

You'll love it! I loved all of my Garelli's! Slap the polini 70cc kit on it and put a 19mm phbg and a puch expansion pipe and you'll be good to go.

Re: garelli ssxl

I'm pretty excited about it. I've got the whole day off with nothing to do but to start stripping it down and cleaner it up.

Re: garelli ssxl

was this rob's garelli?

Re: garelli ssxl

Some guy in the west end named bryan.

Re: garelli ssxl

Oh yeah I know which one that is

Re: garelli ssxl

Cool, it's actually not in that bad of shade. Got it all torn apart today, found mostly surface rust, a clogged petcock, rotten fuel lines, and a trashed carb. No leaks, good compression, and a usable header.

Now for the polini kit, 19 mm intake and phbg, dmp exhaust, drop bars, new wheels and possibly a set of EBR's.

I'll post some pics when i get a little closer to getting it back together.

Re: garelli ssxl

yeah that bike was buddy mikes, him and bryan had been fucking with that thing for a long time.

Re: garelli ssxl

That's cool, well it was pretty much what i was looking for in a winter project. Hopefully it doesn't cause me too much of a headache.

Re: garelli ssxl

find an 11 front.

and make anything work under a 32 and you are doing 45-50+

11 x25 gets me to 55.4 gps

with an estroli welded and a 20mm carb to the 20mm intake 70cc polini

Re: garelli ssxl

^11 front? where?

Re: garelli ssxl

Whats your jetting at? Im just wrestling with my jetting....

Re: garelli ssxl

^bump for him...

Re: garelli ssxl

So what do you all think for the carb on this setup, 70cc polini w/19 mm intake? 16.16 SHA, 16mm phbg or 19mm phbg? I've never tuned a phbg so i'm a little hesitant.

Re: garelli ssxl

þλ†Я¡¢k §¡§ΩИ /

I would go with a phbg!! Why waste such a big intake? I put my

pipe on and went straight to a 21phbg from stock 14.12. Its like

any other carb. First you figure the jet for wot. The advantage is

youre able to tune so much more in between with phbg

Re: garelli ssxl

since i've never setup a phbg what would you say a good starting point is fer jetting? I've checked the spreadsheet and there's only a couple of 19mm on there using low 90's. Also is there going to be a huge difference between the 19 and 19.5? Reason i ask is that i'd really like a push pull choke and all of the 19's i've seen don't have them but a 19.5 does.

Re: garelli ssxl

I'd go with the phbg 19mm. I've had them on two of my Garelli's paired with the polini and the 19mm intake. They fricken RIP! I am not sure at my size jets right now, I'll have to check.

Re: garelli ssxl
