That is an exceedingly difficult thing to do. How am I going to know who replies to me? Am I seriously expected to spend ten minutes researching each person who replies to me? That, does, not, scale.
I take people replies as they post them. If it's sensible that's the end of it. At this point i'm getting the feeling that because what I say doesn't quite mesh with the logic of "bigger is better" it's thought I may be full of crap.
and without full dossiers of each member of the forum, how do I know who's a good mechanic? who's a good tuner? who's got fast bikes? People are already accusing me of not owning a fast bike.
There hasn't been a post by shaw in general, repair, or performance in the last 30 days. So, we can't say if I'd agree or not with him. ;-)
As I've said time and time again, a big carburator isn't going to hurt top speed. It will hurt fuel economy, low rpm, and part throttle performance!
Top speed isn't the "be all and end all" of 2 stroke performance. Sure, pulling 9hp (and perhaps as much as 14, depending on rider posture) from a 50cc motor is impressive. More impressive if it was managed on a piston port motor. But to make numbers like that would require a fairly sharp pipe, and would require running the motor at some pretty wild (read short lived) rpms.
You're talking at least 12,000rpm, if not more. For a motor designed with 6000rpm in mind.. and if we're talking a puch, a 43mm stroke. I'll need to check the math, but 12,000 rpm is approaching the "limits of the materials" thing.
