my two cents:
before you give anyone advice, find out who you're talking to. if it's one of the best mechanics around, who makes bikes in the 60s on a regular basis, odds are good (though it's not guaranteed) that they know what they're doing. Also, if you ever see a post from a Latebird named Shaw, and you feel like you might have something to add that contradicts, you're probably wrong. And I'll stand by that until you built a 50cc (stock cylinder) moped that does 70 mph.
