How Wide Can My Tires Be On Stock Vespa Rims?

I have a Vespa Grande,......the pot hole filled hills of Los Angeles are really a drag with that little skinny tire on the front end.

I am willing to ditch the front fender, so that I can get a max width tire between the front fork,..........but the question is, how wide of a front tire can I safely mount onto the stock rim?

Can I go 2.75 or 3.00 on the front 17" rim - or is that too wide for the stock rim?

And can I get a 3.00 on the rear 16" rim safely? Or are tires that wide simply too wide for the stock rim,...leaving with me getting new rims as my only option?

Thanks for the input in advance.

Its not to wide for the rim but it might run in to your fender. Save a headache, get 2.5's, and know that your not being dragged down by heavy ass wide tires.

I have 2.50's on the front right now,.....and it isn't liking the torn up Hollywood hills roads. I got caught in a rut with that little skinny tire today and it damn near threw me into a parked car.

Maybe I am expecting too much, because I am used to motorcycle tires.

I am cool with getting rid of the front Fender,....it will probably look cooler astetically anyway - but do you really think running 3.00 semi slicks (like the Pirelli M75's) is going to slow me down that much?

i use 2.25x17 michelin gazelle's on the front and rear of my maxi. they work great.

but if i were you id go with the 2.5 gazelle's from quarter kicks

A 3.0 is about the biggest you can find and run. There aren't many metric sized tires under 80/90 available as 17's

As for the tires slowing you down... It's a moped, and everything slows you down.

Cool,......so I can safely mount the 3.00's on those little rims? My tires aren't going to go flying off the rims as I'm busting 45 mph down a massive hill in rush hour traffic?
